Cardinals let Mulder walk after two injury-plagued seasons
anyone supprised
its too bad... How the mighty "big" 3 have fallen... REALLY makes Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine look that much better now. To bad.. I always thought those 3 were destined for greatness

At least they did better than the big three of Isringhausen, Pulsipher, and Wilson.

I'd take a chance on him. Maybe 1 year at $2 mil or $2.5 mil with a second year team option at $5 mil, very low buyout.

That is a lot of money for a guy who:

pitched in only three games in 2007 and 1 2/3 innings in 2008, lasting just 16 pitches on July 9
A fairer deal would be similar to Colon's Bosox deal in '08,no ?

Ideally, a $2 mil first year with a $500,000 buyout could be worth it, especially with a low second year option if he somehow regains his effectiveness. That's a gamble with a low buy-in that could pay off big.
I'll bet the Mulder ends up more in demand than Colon was (or Prior), which will drive his price up. The Yankees seem like a perfect fit for Mulder. $2 mil is a pretty small price to pay for 31 year old, former 20 game winner.

Personally I think he is done - his "morphology" does not bode well for a bounce back ----- it is 3 years since he has had a full season....but MAYBE you are right I would throw 0.5 million at some one like Estes

He's talking about the original "Big 3" of Oakland - Mulder, Zito, Hudson.

they were all in oakland before he could use the computer. probably doesn't remember it.
Re: Cardinals let Mulder walk after two injury-plagued seasons
Hey say what you will about Mulder and Zito. But it's not like Hudson has been doing nothing the past couple years. Sure he's probably not an upper echelon pitcher. But I'd say he's been fringe All-Star worthy the past few seasons.

Except for a one year blip in 2006, he's been a top-notch pitcher year-in and year-out.
Unfortunately, he went under the knife now with Tommy John surgery...
Re: Cardinals let Mulder walk after two injury-plagued seasons
I'd sign him for the minimum, with a lot of incentives.
Re: Cardinals let Mulder walk after two injury-plagued seasons
I have watched Mulder very closely...I really feel he is just done, he has changed his approached, but I just feel he is just done...I could be wrong though.
Re: Cardinals let Mulder walk after two injury-plagued seasons
The Giants should sign Mulder, trade for Hudson, and put the "Big 3" behind Lincecum.
Then bring back Bonds.
