Obviously Romero didn't care because these games DONT MATTER in the long run...
Remember, had a non-Mets player come through with the big hit, metsguy would've been able to maintain his composure, but it was David effen Wright and uh, well metsguy lost his sh*t. Y'know it happens. Of course if David Wright slips on a banana peel and fractures his skull in the clubhouse in Florida or Los Angeles, metsguy will be right back on the "WBC sucks a$$" bandwagon in no time. ;)
Does this board have an ignore function. If not, we need one :(
LOL
Good stuff.
But seriously, metsguy, for someone who likes to claim that they hate the WBC, don't care about it, etc. you're sure following it intensely and getting emotionally vested in it. Look at me, for example. I DON"T care about the WBC...hence, I've barely watched it, and don't give a rat's ass who wins.
Isn't Romero suspended the first 50 games anyway?
Go Japan eliminate Cuba!
I want a USA vs Cuba matchup
USA vs Cuba would be interesting, but I really wanna see Korea V Venezuela
I HATE Venezuela now. Why must the choose the USA to beat upon?
Who do you think will get the next start for the USA? Jake Peavy hasn't really been all that great although I believe he's next on the list and if you use Roy Oswalt and you win, do you want to give the ball to Peavy in the finals? I think it will be an interesting decision.
Throw in the fact that major league teams are expecting their "loaners" to get their reps in and there's the potential for a hornet's nest brewing. Frankly, I wouldn't want to manage a team that has a lot of MLBers without an Excedrin I.V. drip. Talk about being pulled in all kinds of directions. Sheesh! I still want the tournament to succeed though. I love watching the subtle and not so subtle differences in approach to the game.
It probably is a short fluke, but this isn't a season we're talking about, it's a short tournament. Just like in the playoffs if you're in a rough skid it's something you should think about. He's obviously going to pitch one of the two games but I'm not sure which. Do you take the chances he gets you through the semis and in to the finals or do you put him out in your most important game?
You guys mean from here on (after tonight) it's ONE AND DONE???
Wow, so the final four won't be like the other brackets.
OK, makes sense. Don't know why I was thinking if they got to the next round they could lose one more again.
Wow. Peavy/Oswalt IS a tough decision.
I think I would start Peavy, only because I still think the best lineup of those left will be Venezuela, and I know we won't play them first, so I would start Peavy first, and hopefully that's a good enough (plus bullpen help if needed) plan to get to the finals and have Oswalt left to likely face that Venezuelan lineup.
The Peavy/Oswalt debate is honestly left to who they play in the semis.
If its Japan/Cuba I think I'd take Oswalt because the pitching that Japan would throw out (Darvish/Matsuzaka) would need a great pitching performance on the other side as well and the Cuban team is one of those teams that is all but impossible to come back on.
If its Korea I'd take Peavy. The Koreans have good pitching but they have shown vulnerability (14-2 loss in round 1) to show that the USA could get in a slug fest.
Yeah, it only affects seeding.
In LA, the Number One seed from this pool (USA/Venezuela) will play the Number Two seed from the other pool (Korea/Japan/Cuba). So if the USA loses tonight (looks likely doesn't it :D), they have to play the number ONE seed from the other pool, and Venezuela gets to play the number TWO seed.
Tonight's Cuba/Japan game determines the 4th of the final four, but then the winner of that game will play Korea tomorrow to determine the pool winner and number one seed in that bracket.
Make sense???
De Rosa HR!!!! 7-5, the USA is ALIVE!
Japan is up 4-0 in the top of the 9th right now and they're threatening to add more. Looks like Cuba is pretty much gone unless they can repeat what the USA did.
Semis set. Japan, Korea, USA and Venezuela
All four of those teams could win it.
Castro called out the Cuban team because they weren't winning by enough in 1st round play. Hate to see what he says about them now.
I really wanna see Japan V USA and Korea V Venezuela in the semis and then Venezuela V Japan in the finals

Here's his latest blog entry. Keep us updated
5-2 Japan 8th inning. Looks like we get Venezuela.
