No. Because arguing with a person that is blinded by their fandom is useless.

How about we stop attributing winning and losing to differences in "psyche", and just attribute it to who played better? How about that revolutionary idea?
Sorry, you don't win 97 games and make the World Series with a "fragile psyche." Frankly, you don't make the major leagues with a "fragile psyche."

I picked the Brewers to win the NLDS, although, looking back, I'm not sure why I did...that was a dumb mistake. I picked the Phillies to win the NLCS though.

Uh, yeah, the same goes for Tampa Bay.

I'm not a hater. I'm just rational.

Then pick them to win, state your case, discuss why you think they'll win, do whatever. But accusing everyone who picked the Rays of being "haters" and making statements like "the Dodgers are tougher than the Rays" is just... silly.

So any time a team is losing, it's because they're scared? This makes zero sense.

A lot of people picked a lot of teams. I picked the Phillies over the Brewers, personally. It's not because I was "hating" on the Brewers, it's because I thought the Phils were a better team and would win the series.

No teams "quit."

That's every team's goal.

Oh, I gotcha...the Phillies "want it more". Right. Tell me, will they also give 110%, and play one game at a time?
That is the other thing. I HATE the American League. DH rule? Bunch of wusses! Real baseball is played with all nine position players batting, not with someone else batting for the pitcher. That is so stupid!

Re: Who will win the World Series?
This is just silly. Something tells me that this Phillies fan is about 12 years old, and is incapable of an objective look at this subject. I will sum this up, however, and then let it go.
The Rays won 97 games in the best division in baseball, and in a vastly superior league. The Phillies won 92 games in an inferior league. The Phils are a fairly good team. The Rays are a great team. Nonetheless, as many have stated, anything can happen in a short series. The Phillies could win.. it just isnt likely. Have a great WS.

I am not saying that. Philadelphia fans are persecuted nationally for their outward passion.
Actually, I was pulling for the Red Sox. The Red Sox fans and Philly fans get along very well because they love their teams and will defend them to the end. The series here in Philly where thousands of Bostonians come down are like world series games.

um... no ther are persicuted due to their often mean natue NOT EVERYONE and im not even implying all fans are this way...
The only 2 games I have been to in Philly all I saw was people being dragged out of there by security because they where throwing food/drinks at the fans of the other teams... Cursing even at kids... and dont blame it on drunks because I make it a point to sin in the non-alcoholic section. As I said before this is NOT all philly fans but lets just say... they are known for it. i ahve been to yankke stadium, shea, boston all MANY MANY times, (more than I can count) and have NEVER had stuff thrown at me and I weat a braves t-shirt and cap EVERY TIME I GO.
*side note* I was a little nervous about doing it th game Rocker said he was going to ride the subway tho but actualy we lost the game so the rind home i had to take ribbing from the Mets fans but it was all in fun.

um not sure if you know this but baseball is a game OF STATISTICS. the entire game, matchps, lineups, defensive substitutions, are all managed by statistics, with only a little feeling added in.

Taking part in this particular brand of debate/discussion can be tricky.
As Filihok observed,

Evidently, that's pretty common.
I want Philadelphia to win.
I think the team from that circus tent they call Tropicana Field will win.

Re: Who will win the World Series?
Phillies fans are not "persecuted." I think you're envious of teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, that have a lot of exposure and "hatred" against them.
Philadelphia fans (this includes the Eagles, 76ers, and Flyers) are, however, KNOWN for being intense fans, but also quick to turn on their own teams and players at the drop of a hat, and for throwing things onto the field.
But they're not "persecuted" and nobody hates the Phillies. Again, do the Phillies even have a rival team?

Those choke artists up in New York, The MOOTS.

The Phillies main rivals are the Philadelphis sportswriters.

Re: Who will win the World Series?
honestly, i really hope the rays lose. and it has nothing to do with the series overall. But I still want the Phils to win, of course.
The fan support sucked in Tampa throughout the season, and the only reason they have sellouts is because the fans show up now in the playoffs, just like the Marlins.
-
Re: Who will win the World Series?
Next year will be the acid test for Tampa fans, or the jackacid test as the case may be. If they're not averaging 30k+ in attendance next year, with the players they have, they oughta move the franchise. (How about Raleigh? :D )
I'm rooting for the Rays to win because I like the way their team has been put together, but I've noticed that the bandwagon has gotten very crowded the past few weeks.

they wont have anywhere close to 30,000 ... if they average around 25,000- 27,000 they will be happy... its not going to go crazy in 1 year. Heck this year it jumped 5,100 over last year (17,148 to 22,259)
If i'm them, of course I want a packed house every night, but I'd be happy around 25,000. in 2 years that would be like 35-40% increase

Re: Who will win the World Series?
Rays win it. Phillies are good, but I see Howard committing an error every game. Well, maybe not that bad.
Should be a fun series - both teams have weaknesses, but great players.
I do hope this translates into Rays fandom spreading - I've been going to the trop for 3 years now, and fans were finally starting to come to games a little this year. Seeing the upper deck filled during the ALCS was amazing. I like my Red Sox, but Rays are in my top 5 favorite teams.
-
Re: Who will win the World Series?
Th eproblem is peopl will expect the stands to be full now at 30,000+. its not going to heppen... This is the 1st year. I want to see next year 25,000. The fans will come next year jsut give them a few years before you think they are going to draw great #'s. They contend for the title again next year.. watch how fast the 2010 tickets sell

Re: Who will win the World Series?
It is really sad how they have sections of seats roped off and covered in Tampa Bay. It is just a transient state. I do not see them drawing more than they do now. They are rhe AL Marlins. They will win, sell off their players to the highest bidder and rebuild.
-
Re: Who will win the World Series?
At least Peter Gammons has given the Phillies the respect they deserve. Just about all of the national sportswriters are picking TB to win it. Ugh! Some to have TB sweep the Phils. What a slap in the face. I guess they want the "feel good" story. Well, I hope they don't mind writing about the Phillies when they win it on 6 games.
GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!

No, they won't. Jeffrey Loria isn't their owner.

I understand that you're a Phillies fan, but maybe you should give Tampa the respect they deserve and stop acting like they're some second-class team that's going to rollover and die against Philadelphia.
There's a reason a lot of people are picking Tampa to win, and it has nothing to do with it being a feel good story.

Am I bashing them? NO! They made it. I am glad they made it. They are a good team. It will be a great series.
Why is it every time I bring up the Phils winning, people consider it bashing the Rays? For the love of everything holy! Everyone has a right to an opinion, except Phillies fans?

At least I am giving them credit for winning two games! A lot of people who get paid money called sports writers are saying the Phillies are going to roll over and die and not win one game. That is a lack of respect! And these are professional sportswriters? Then again, the Dodgers were going to roll all over us and we know how that worked out! :D
Should I say Phillies win it in 7? Does that make everyone sleep better at night?

You have a right to an opinion, but when you're whining and making a big stink about people picking the Rays, yeah, it does seem like you're bashing them. You're acting like it's so surprising that people think the Rays will win.

So, educate me oh wise one, if my opinion is about the writers, why is it whining?
