And also by far the worst hitter.

thats the problem I think all the weight put too much pressure on his knees
Report: Braves, Friars near Peavy deallooks like its gonna get done...
Why would you not ask 1st if he would waive it instead of waiting until the end here. it will be funny as hell if he says no :p
id like to see him say no because he wants escobar playing behind him. I read that somewhee that he wanted the braves to keep escobar. :p
true... like the Escobar thing
I almost hope he says no because of Escobar... tho im afraid they cant get another deal done :( that would be AWESOME tho if they could swap Escobar for Johnson. If so Id give them Reyes, Johnson, Hernandez, and Morton.Quote:
He did
Peavy, Lowe, Jair, Smoltz Hampton... I'll take it :P
I'm glad Wren stuck to his game plan and not bend like some second year GMs might. Towers simply tried to play us and the Cubs against each other, and failed just like the Twins last year with Santana. I see the Braves getting Lowe plus one of Perez, Garland, or Johnson plus either Dunn or Ibanez (I hope Dunn, I think Ibanez)
Have you guys seen what Hanson has been doing in the Arizona Fall League? It's known as a good hitters league and yet most scouts are saying that Hanson could be the MVP of the league.
Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG
MSS AFL 4 0 0.76 6 6 0 0 0 23.2 9 2 2 1 5 39 1.14 .114
Probably one of the reasons why the Braves didn't want to trade him.
I've also read that the Cubs are getting less interested in Peavy.
Quote:
"As of right now, there hasn't been a deal presented to us that we could accept," Towers said. "The next thing is for (agent Barry Axelrod) to sit down with Jake and say, 'Doesn't look like anything's happening with L.A. Nothing's more than likely happening with the Cubs, and as of now not with the [Braves]. As of now, you're probably going to remain a Padre.' "
Here come the Yanks!
I'd love to trade for Peavy... Hughes, Kennedy, + a couple of lower level prospects. Get it done Cash!
Says who?
No offense, but it really amazes me when people continue to say that Phil Hughes is a bust, or that he doesn't have much trade value. Phil Hughes is a 22 year old kid that struggled as a starting pitching for the New York Yankees. A 22 year old kid... come on, Braves fans should know as well as anyone that you gotta wait a few years before you can drastically decrease a young starting pitcher's value from ace to nothing special.
Kennedy was never a top flight head of the rotation guy, Hughes was considered to have the potential to be one and still is considered to have the potential to be one.
Just because a 21/22 year old SP struggled in the majors and a 23 year old SP struggled in the majors doesn't mean that they don't have any value left. Hughes is still considered a potential ace and Kennedy is still considered a potential middle of the rotation SP. All major scouts still have the same opinion about Hughes... many still believe Kennedy will be a solid ML SP, but a lot also don't think he'll be much.
ATL's offer almost got it done, and if I am not mistaken they only offered Yunel Escobar, Tommy Hanson, and another minor leaguer or 2, right? An offer of Hughes, Kennedy, and possibly a mix of Horne/Romine/Melky/ could at the very least tie the offer that ATL presented, if not surpass it.
escobar beats melky as far as a player, and they nee a SS desperatly. they said they want pitchers and a middle infielder so offering melky is not going to help unless you offerd cano.. in which if u offerd both and kennedy OR hughes it would be a no brainer.
You could offer cano Kennady and hughs and they might take it.
and i did NOT say they were a bust... i said they were hyped up... as every teams players are. Chuck James was a front of the rotation guy too... do you hear me still trying to put him in as a stud guy... and he is a guy who went 10-0 his 1st season and struggled LESS than hughs last year!!!
The San Diego Padres wouldn't want Robinson Cano. I mean, they think 6M is too much for Greene, and Cano is due to make like around 7M next season. They are looking to shed salary, so Cano really wouldn't make a lot of sense.
I agree about Escobar being better than Melky (a LOT better), but San Diego also needs outfielders it seems, so I'm sure that Melky would entice them somewhat. We could offer up Carmen Angelini if we must (a SS), but he won't be ready for at least 3 seasons.
Also, Chuck James was 25 before he pitched his first full season, and Phil Hughes is just 22... Chuck James was never a Baseball America Top 100 Prospect from what I can see, so I don't know about the "front of the rotation" comment.
