Well St. Louis finally has a decent farm now after Jocketty is gone and done raping our system every year...MO let's it grow...and I doubt he will make any changes to that plan unless it could really really benefit the club.

Pitching is not what the Rays need. Frankly, I don't see them having any real interest.

BTW: I would love the Red Sox to get in on the deal because:
1) Peavy is that good IMO & even if they do pick up the 2013 option would be at market price (or below) &
2) it would stop the OTHER AL East teams getting him.
As always the question would be cost - & IMO they shouldn't be using Bucholz or Bowden in ANY deal if Lowrie & Ellsbury are the base.:rolleyes:

First, it's not a matter of signing him, and that's a huge part of the appeal of Peavy. He's signed through 2012, with a large club option for '13. He would have to waive his no-trade clause, but according to many outlets, he would do so in order to come to certain cities -- including St. Louis.
The Cardinals have no choice but to kick the tires and find out exactly what it's going to take. Any deal likely starts with Rasmus, and likely would include other players as well -- perhaps a starter like Jess Todd and a reliever like Jason Motte. I'm not saying those guys have necessarily been discussed, but that's the kind of package you're looking at. It's a lot.
Then there's Greene, who is an interesting factor in the whole deal. If the Padres are looking to unload him, it might help St. Louis -- since the Cardinals don't have a shortstop for 2009, and since before '08 Greene was a pretty good player -- especially in the field.
