Just FOR YOU :p

The Braves have an offense that can compete, though it's a bit fragile and a little shallow in the outfield. The rotation will continue to be a problem, with the careers of Glavine and Smoltz both very much in the air and Hudson out for most of 2009 from his Tommy John surgery. Jair Jurrjens really came through for the team this year but the top of the rotation will remain quite thin. Either Parr or Hanson could surprise and be contributors, but I don't know if it'll be 2009 and I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be enough to replace what the Braves didn't get from Smoltz and Hudson in 2008.
thanks frenchie :p we add peavy and add a middle for the road starter I dont see why we cant compete
Yes land Peavy first (lol & you will lose some of that "fragile" offense too ;))
Honestly, for a team like the Braves, you need to keep the Heywards/Hansons/Johnsons RATHER than dealing them to a NL rival,IMHO.
You'd be better off signing Derek Lowe & Ben Sheets ;)
I am BEGGING for them to sign Lowe. I think he has ALWAYS been underrated. Sheets injuries make me nervous but if you give him incentives based on ip and starts and such we may be fine. I think hansen needs another year. If we get smoltx back I would be happy with just signing lowe. If we can get smoltz back as the closer :D:D:D:D:D I say sigh Lowe and maybe a guy like Oliver perez. I wish we could coax Maddux to come back for 1 year. I would LOVE to see that
francouer, reyes, johnson/prado (I say send johnson keep prado because johnson may have more value) and a mid level guy.
I do NOT want hanson going anywhere nor schaefer
No way would San Diego do that. Francoeur's a mess, and his value is at an all-time low. Reyes isn't that good of a prospect. Padres GM Kevin Towers said today that they're looking for pitching, mostly, and would like a mix of major-league ready and near-ready guys....which sounds like they'd require both Jurrjens and Hanson, plus more.
The rumor mill (I think it was Ben Maller) was - Hanson,Jurrjens,Johnson + either
Heyward - Schafer or Freeman & the Atlanta Journal suggested this, which looks to "low" in "light" of Haren deal & his reasonable price.
If I was Towers I would WAIT till CC is off the market & then use CC's price to drive the market up....
than keep peavy :p I am not totaly morgaging the future like the Mets did... I do NOT want them to give up every blue chip they have. Ill give reyes, and james, and blaine boyer in the deal but you are not gettng a 6-10 for 1 deal from me if im the braves. Its just more than the team can handle. its not like we have a barron farm but I dont want to push it in the direction. Jair to me... is off limits. He is the face of the future of our staff. Then again james was 2 years ago the face as well with his 10-1 but we all see what happened there
I think that the Rays could have a decent reason to deal for him - they could offer Jackson,Sonnastine,Perez or Brignac + one of Davis/Hellickson or McGee
As the Friars need a CF & 2B plus pitching it would work out pretty nice for them & Peavy's price is so reasonable.I WOULD HATE that deal as suddenly the Rays would have the best 1-3 in the league & a nasty 4/5 in Garza & Price....
You know... I never really think about them. That is a trade that would REALLY help both teams. Its a fair deal too. Suddenly makes the Padre's a contrender too... and just makes Tampa look like DEFINATLY the team to beat next year in the east too lol. Plus Tampa would not lose any picks because he is a F/A. The question is would he go there. I think it would be a good idea, if he would waive his no trade.
I did the trade possibilities team by team & ONLY Tampa worked for both teams & Peavy (ie he is minimum Playoff).
To be honest the ONLY teams who the Padrs could realistically land a deal is the 4 AL East teams:
Boston - they could get Ellsbury/Bowden/Bucholz + 1
NY Yankees : Hughes/Kennedy/Gardner or Jackson +1
Toronto (if AJ opts out) : Cecil/Snider/Janssen + 1
Tampa - already noted
Otherwise there is a "mis-fit" either for the trader/tradee or Peavy....
Peavy has stated that he doesn't want to go to an AL team, and he has the no-trade clause, so, it's up to him, really.
astros, brewers and cardinals are all in consideration as well
