Awesome....good for him.:)

Good for him. Shame on his school for their ridiculous antics. Hopefully the Manatee County Government School (or whatever they call themselves) enjoys being a national laughingstock.
My favorite teams are Boston and Philadelphia, but I wouldn't be all that upset if Tampa won the Series.

This just proves how stupid public schools are getting
My hats off to Gomes and the Rays, they have more class than the school system

Stupid rules deserve to get broken

Yeah, a school should be dealing with 'distracting hair' over, you know, that pesky EDUCATION thing.
Good for the kid, though!

Yeah...I'll echo what everyone else has said already!

That's probably the first time 'Gomes and class' appeared in the same sentence....but yeah I don't mind if the Rays win it all....their fans are a different story.

Has Gomes done some very "unclassy" things that I haven't heard about?

What do you have against Rays fans? Besides you being a fan of a rival team.

Re: 12-year-old, punished for 'Rayhawk' haircut, gets a big surprise
Probably the fact that they dont support the team. Rays fans are near the bottom in attendance, despite having a first place team.

Public schools can be so obnoxious. I have had stupid stuff like that happen to me, and I just refuse to acept the punishment most of the time, unless it makes sense. Like getting suspended for squirting a bit of water on someone, having a 3-hour detention for being "Disrespectful and dishonorable" To a teacher, damaging a little foam football and getting a detention. Don't schools have anything better to do?

Good for him :). I can't believe that they won't let people have distracting haricuts lol.
I will feel sorry for this kid when Boston beats Tampa Bay and advances to the WS

This was their first year as a team even near contention. It'll take longer than that to see the affect on attendance. I suspect they'll see a significant increase in attendance next season.

I'm in the high school right now, but I found a copy of the middle school's morning announcements for my school... and it said something along the lines of:
"Physical contact, even when joking around, is prohibited."

Re: 12-year-old, punished for 'Rayhawk' haircut, gets a big surprise
While there will probably be some carryover effect, I sincerely doubt that the Rays attendance will increase appreciably next year. The Marlins won the WS in 2003, and they were 28'th in average attendance. The following year they improved to 26'th, and then back to 28'th again in 2005. The Rays may be different, but it seems that Florida is much more of a football state.
