what would you be happy with next year
I was LEGITIMATE answers and not stuff like the yanks with ever good f/a out there and a 200 million payroll again.
here is my Atlanta Braves roster.
It dies involce trading for Vlad which im not sure the Angels would do.. And give his knees I may not do as well but here goes.
Blanco LF
escobar SS
chipper 3B
vlad RF
mccann C
johnson/prado 2B
francouer CF
kochman 1B(can move to the #2 spot if he starts hitting again)
with
Lowe (R)
Jurrjen (R)
Hampton (L)
campillo (R)
james (L)/reyes(L) unless he implodes again/glavine(L)
closer smoltz
setup sorriano/gonzalez.
Braves Wren have been told they have $40 million to work with this year on f/a's
Vlad 15 million
Lowe 15-18 Million (I hope) 3 years
Hampton 2 million (5 mill in incentives) 1 year deal
Smoltz 2 million (5 million in incentives) 1 year deal
Glavine (MAYBE) 2 million (5 million in incentives) This is ONLY if we cant get another starter via trade but it would involve some interesting payroll implications
That's 39 million. (15 more in incentives based on innings/apearences/starts/ etc.
We dont want lots of long tern deals (unless its sabathia for 4-5 years at 15 million (laughable)) Hudson will be back after next year.

That actually is a perfectly legitimate answer.

As I said in the other thread, there's no way in the hell that the Angels trade Vlad.

I'm perfectly happy with my team. I would like to find a way to add Texiera, but he would cost at least 5/75....Lowell would get benched a lot*...and what kind of effect is this going to have on Youk, who is only marginally inferior, but would make a kajillion less in dollars?
*Unless I do a rotating 3B-1B-Dh thing. Which really isn't so bad an idea.

And leave David Ortiz out of it? :p

No...no..he'd be a part of it. If i were utterly ruthless I'd cut/trade Lowell and Papi (Sorry, don't think they'll ever be what they were before....perfectly serviceable but not what they were) and get Tex and Giambi.
But I'm not ruthless...and they're my boyz.
Re: what would you be happy with next year
So, you meant rotating 4 players through those slots, then?

yes. Lowell, Tex,Youk and Papi.
Re: what would you be happy with next year
So Papi would get time at 3rd? That would be amusing :D

(Faceslap) nooooooo....well, unless he wants too.

Hate to pile on here, but a Red Sox fan I think they are pretty well set ,
With Lester, Becket and Daisuke at the top and Masterson, Wakefield and Buchholz at the bottom the rotation is fine.
Signing Papelbon will be important, but they will need to add a couple of Middle relievers.
Youk, Pedrioa Lowrie and Lowell in the infield is fine ( obviously depending on the extent of Lowell's injury post surgery) with cora and Lugo as back ups.
Drew, Bay and Ellsbury start in the OF.
Offensively i think they lack an proto-typical Number 4 hitter but Lowell, Youk, Bay, Drew will al kinda dance arounf the 4-5-6-7 areas.
Oh yeah, If you can get Tex for 5/75m then by all means sign him and worry about playing time later, but no way he signs for such a crazy low price.
Lastly Varitek, this is the only question mark as far a signing him, they almost definiatly will, but will it make sense.
With a great offensive already they can absorb Varitek being poor offesively (assuming he dosen't slide even further) but reallly who are you going to get to replace him? - one of the 874 Molina brothers??
Re: what would you be happy with next year
What the Sox need is a good, stable young catcher. Maybe one of the rangers three strong catchers, Max Ramirez, Salty, or Teagarden. And aside from a bit of bullpen work, we are looking really good. My Rockies, on the other hand, need to do a lot to the rotation after Francis and Cook, and figure out if Helton should stay or not.

They'll have a ton of trouble getting rid of Helton.

I know. Their best hope is he rebounds to atleast his '08 form for a couple years, because that contract is scary. i really hope that he does well and can stay, but he needs to really do well to not drag us down with his contract

Haha, another Papi-less bosox response. Is he not as popular with you guys these days?
Re: what would you be happy with next year
BTW...Vlad doesn't seem like he can play the field anymore.
As far as the Red Sox...they are so set and so deep the things I look for is the development of the young guys. Michael Bowden, Lars Anderson, and what they are going to do with Justin Masterson is interesting. The Tek thing could be the only exciting thing FA wise the team's got. They could, or should, get a C in a deal and if Tek can be resigned for a fair deal, he could catch 90-110 games. He's caught 131 games for 2 years in a row. I don't think he can go like that anymore. I see Kelly Shoppach in Cleveland...wish we still had him.
here are the potential FA catchers...not a very good bunch
