they are going to trade him to SFG for matt cain
Re: Howard carries Phillies into playoffs
I saw Howard in person during the 3-game Marlins series in Miami. A homer landed pretty close to my seats. But man, what a horrendous fielder. I'd have more faith in Ortiz at first than this guy.

If Ryan Howard hadn't disappeared for 3 of the 6 months of the season, there wouldn't have been a need for him to "carry the Phillies into the playoffs" because they would've wrapped up the division pretty early.
Re: Howard carries Phillies into playoffs
You must admit, you would still want him on your team, strikeouts and all.
Re: Howard carries Phillies into playoffs
Depends who the alternatives are and at what price. In the entire game, Pujols obviously, and he's even a few months younger than Howard but has been around for over three years longer.

I don't care about the strikeouts.
As BINGLEBOP said, it depends on the alternatives. There's probably 5-10 first basemen I'd choose over him if it was a question like, "Which first basemen would you want if you were building a team for the next 5 years?"
Re: Howard carries Phillies into playoffs
Agreed, plus I think he's already peaked, so he wouldn't be in my top 5 even.
Re: Howard carries Phillies into playoffs
Yep. He's got the body type and the statistical profile to fit right into the Cecil Fielder career path.
And he's already started his descent downward.
