Seriously,the Media (for ALL the pros & cons) work a simple process - their aim is too HIT the maximum of POTENTIAL readers/watchers & in sports there is a hierachy of WHO & WHAT sells.... teams' like Cowboys/Patriots/Sox/Cubs & Yankees all have a HUGE fan base - so it logical they get more coverage than say Kansas City or Pittsburgh.
It also helps that certain teams have extra-sport "storied" athletes such as Romo/Owens in Dallas but also A-Rod (his contract/his Divorce & his "female" friends ;) ) Jeter & Brady without forgetting Mr Ocho WHO alone sells the Bengals more than the REST of the roster combined!
