what current players do you think will be HOFers?
what current players do you think will be HOFers? To make things bit simpler let's hold the discussion to MLB players with at least 10 years of service as of this season, this makes it a bit easier to project what they might do over the next 5 seasons or so to finish out their careers don't you think vs. a relatively new commer with less than 4 seasons of experience. Here's my short list of guys that have at least a 50% shot with the most obvious ones coming first: 1. Griffey 2. Randy Johnson 3. Derek Jeter 4. Alex Rodriguez 5. Jim Thome 6. Barry Bonds 7. Mike Mussina has at least a 50% chance, I think if he can have another year or two like this year he will get in. 8. John Smoltz 9. Greg Maddux is a lock of course 10. Swinging Sammy Sosa has a decent shot. Who's on your list guys?

He recently got 60% of the vote or so. History shows us that when a player gets that much of the vote, they're nearly guaranteed to be elected, and if not by the BBWAA, definitely by the Veteran's Committee. But I think he'll get in by the BBWAA. Rich Lederer's campaign over at thebaseballanalysts.com really did some good.
By the way, here's an article from today on the BBWAA voting process. It links back to previous articles written by the same guy, as well. The article examines the trends of the BBWAA voting.
Re: what current players do you think will be HOFers?
Henderson's a lock to go in this coming year. Santo should've been in a long time ago. I don't think Gil Hodges should be in, nor do I think he will get in through the VC. And John Franco? He doesn't belong in, and won't get in.
I limited my list above, though, to currently active players or players that are retired but haven't yet been on the ballot (except for McGwire and Palmeiro).

John Franco: one of the greatest closers in the history of the game? Feared by all when he was on the mound? Mets hero? That John Franco doesn't belong in the HOF? Get real ,HGM...

I'm split on Jim Edmonds. He doesn't have the career value I like to see, but his peak value was incredible. I lean towards yes. However, I doubt he'll actually have much of a chance.
Juan Gonzalez, no. I don't think he belongs, and I also highly doubt he'll make it considering he's an iffy case to begin with, coupled with the steroid allegations. I also don't think he deserved either MVP award (he beat A-Rod by 3 points in the voting in 1996, but A-Rod had better raw offensive production...from shortstop, and in 1998 he beat out Albert Belle who somehow placed like 9th because the media hated him along with a more deserving Nomar Garciaparra).
