I think that it's obvious how the two situations aren't comparable.

I happen to think that he probably is a decent guy. Maybe he has an inflated ego, and is a jerk to the media, but again, all we know about players, unless we personally know them, is what the media tells us, and what the media tells us is greatly influenced by the relationship the media has with the player, and just because a player has a bad relationship with the media doesn't mean that the player is a bad guy.
Re: Carlos Delgado for MVP
then how is Bonds a bad guy?

Your confusing a "nice guy" with a "media friendly guy", Pujols isn't overly friendly to the media, he's a quiet, private guy, who doesn't have promoting himself via the media as a priority,
Also Pujols 2nd place MVPs were more a factor of bad luck being behind Bonds and at least 2005 Howard posted very similar stats, Williams was clearly the best player in the league and lost the MVP 3 or 4 times.

I was about to say almost the same thing. I always catch myself conjecturing about a player's personality or where he falls on the "good guy/bad guy" scale and realize it's a media thing. My point about Pujols was, though, while he does avoid the media, he doesn't post blogs ripping the media (like Bonds did), he doesn't engage in standoffs with the media (like Bonds did), and he's certainly not known (through the media) as being a guy with an ugly personality (like Bonds was).
There's very few players (Mark Grace is an example) whose personality is more or less visible with or without the media. With practically EVERY guy in sports, we don't really have a very good idea if they're good, bad, or whatever. Some players tend to be vilified to the point that people begin to honestly believe that they're evil. I'm sure very few players are anywhere near as bad as some of us would like to believe.
Sidney Ponson seems like a pretty bad character, though.

funny lol I never really got that impression
Re: Carlos Delgado for MVP
A lot of reporters seem to be such big jerks that sometimes I think more highly of players that don't get along well with them. ;)

I'd tend to agree.
