Players, ump lose track of count; Rodriguez Ks on 4-2 pitch

Re: Players, ump lose track of count; Rodriguez Ks on 4-2 pitch
This seems like it's becoming an increasingly common occurrence and it's really pathetic.

Andre Ethier had a five-ball walk recently, against the Phillies. He actually didn't notice, but it seemed the pitcher did.

Perhaps if some Umps were less inteerested in there Strike Out Theatrics like:

they could keep track better.

Funny clip, man. I haven't seen that movie for awhile. :D
Were I in charge, I'd be making one call right now...to inform said ump that he's now out of a job. Seriously, you're monitoring balls and strikes...it's what you're paid to do...you've proven you can't do it, so no more getting paid.

I think it some times has something to do with how long both pitchers and batters can take to be ready for the pitch.

Coco Crisp got walked on 3 balls last week against the White Sox. No one noticed

Re: Players, ump lose track of count; Rodriguez Ks on 4-2 pitch
While certainly not making excuses for the ump, I think the batters and pitchers taking so long ARE a factor....and I think they slow up the game. Maybe baseball needs a rule regarding length of time between pitches if there's no time out.

Exactly. There's already rules in place for that, although off the top of my head I don't know the exact details. All that would need to be done is to enforce them.

I agree with this. The rules that are in place need to be enforced...I doubt I'm the only one tired of the sequence of...and that's ball one. The hiter steps out of the box...he adjusts his left glove, his package, his left glove again, his right glove, his helmet, works a kink out of his neck, his right glove again, taps his cleats, re-adjusts the gloves, enjoys a latte, brushes his face, does some pilates...:D

Seriously... One of the things I like about baseball is that it's "slow", but come on! Play the game!

I know, it was weird. Maybe it was a computer graphical error? I have never seen it before. Everything seems normal now, so I don't know what it was about

Brendan Harris was rung up in a critical moment against the Brewers when he called for time while in the batter's box, his request was not granted, and he struck out while not looking. Honestly, it it really that important to make games 5 minutes shorter?

Same thing happened to A-Rod a couple weeks ago.

Looking at the length of the games is missing the point. It's the pace of the games that needs to be addressed. All the needless waste of time that goes on while batters and pitchers try to mess with each others' heads between pitches not only makes the games longer, it drains out a lot of the tension and entertainment. Unless you really like watching someone adjust their batting glove 35 times during an at-bat.

Re: Players, ump lose track of count; Rodriguez Ks on 4-2 pitch
Agreed. I don't care if it 'only' saves five minutes. That actually might be about right. This is a question of pacing...I know when I'm at the park I get VERY tired of seeing pitchers and batters just staring at each other practicing their telepathy.
