If you were GM of your team..
..would you be utterly ruthless and efficient, or would you be influenced by your iconic players?
E.G.: The Red Sox. If they had a shot at Teixeira the smart thing would be to give the lions share of time to Youk and Tex and let Lowell and Papi scrap over the DH......but I'd rather win and lose with Papi and Lowell for the next 1-2 years then bring in Tex because I'm just stupid that way and for all of Theo's "Don't fall in love with your stars" philosophy, I suspect the Sox FO is as bad as I am.
Re: If you were GM of your team..
One of my first acts of business would be: I'd trade James Loney.
I think it's hard to say what I'd really be like as a GM. But I'd think, working your way up to a GM, you'd probably learn to see players as a commodity and not as entertainment (like we see them now). So it'd be easier to be "ruthless and efficient."
Re: If you were GM of your team..
My fav team is a small market team, so I wouldn't be able to afford to view my players as stars I wanted to keep. I'd have to see them as commodities.
For the record, I'd trade Bill Hall, shoot Eric Gagne, & give Rickie Weeks a headsup that he's on the hotseat as well

You only hit .346 with 48 HRs, 134 RBI and 123 Walks? Get off this team. Now.

Re: If you were GM of your team..
Trade Aaron Heilman and hire Davey Johnson to manage the Mets.
Re: If you were GM of your team..
Blowup the team and start all over in Seattle. Trade Beltre, Bedard, Washburn, Johjima, and hopefully Silva and Batista. Release Batista if he cant be traded.
Re: If you were GM of your team..
Trade Ankiel. Make Rasmus the starter in Centerfield. Rotation would be
1.Wainwright
2.Lohse
3.Carpenter
4.Parisi
5.Wellemer
Closer.Chris Perez or Jason Motte

I'd be too loyal, probably to a fault... and not even necessarily with "iconic" players. It's the same way I operate my BBM teams. I guess it's the part of me that liked seeing players like Kirby Puckett and Kent Hrbek spend their entire careers with a team growing up, even though I know that's entirely unrealistic (and not necessarily beneficial to the team) nowadays, but I always end up having the same lineup (barring injuries) for seasons at a time. I like the continuity and "loyalty", even though with most players in real life, it's based on money anyway.
Re: If you were GM of your team..
Shoot Andruw Jones. Trade Juan Pierre. Only changes I'd make
Re: If you were GM of your team..
I'd tell Andruw to get back on whatever steroids he was doing a few seasons ago instead.
