Re: One last olympic thread
What, no one wants an excuse to go to Tokyo in 2016? It may be expensive as hell but I might go if possible. I would graduate from college in 2015 and would have a year to save up that much money.
Re: One last olympic thread
Well, Japan just HAD a Winter Games in Nagano, so I think they're out. I would probably say Rio gets it...IOC would love to establish a footprint in South America, and they know Brazil would spend like drunken idiots to create a spectacle to get further global attention. Plus, they have one of the fastest growing economies on Earth.
Re: One last olympic thread
Eh, I'll just wait til 2028 when the games may be co-hosted by Vancouver and Seattle.
Re: One last olympic thread
I voted for Rio, because I hate the city of Chicago. If it was ANY other city, I woulod be fine. Well, New York I would not like, but still.....
Re: One last olympic thread

It's incredibly close-minded to hate a whole CITY.

Re: One last olympic thread
Chicago baby. Bring it back home.
I'd love Rio, but remember, the city has to be able to afford the building expense. Athens is still in debt. China will be in debt but wont say a word. Japan is out because they just had Winter.
They will choose Chicago just on financials.
Re: One last olympic thread
Brazil's economy is red hot right now (one of the highest economic growth rates on Earth the past few years), their government is showing an increasing willingness to spend on things that get them international attention (like the Olympics will), and it would let the IOC sell the idea that "See? Anyone can get an Olympic Games!".

But our financials are so poor.
There's a huge stink about Chicago's transportation system, and the mayor (according to some, and I agree), is pretty much selling out the citizens and both the present AND future our public transit in order to change transit construction/maintenance philosophies and focus strictly on the games.
Re: One last olympic thread
Oh, what the hell. I picked Rio.
Re: One last olympic thread
I would love to see it in Rio. My 1st choice.
Just dont give me the economic superiority of Brazil. They are still a print money economy. The US sux right now. 2-3 years, Europe will suck too because thats the way it works. Then Japan will go down. Those 3 areas dictate the global economy. When the US sneezes, South America just prints more money. When we are thriving again in 2012, South America will be debt ridden as all hell. For once I know what I am talking about since this is my job.
Re: One last olympic thread
Rio!
Brazilian women.... yummy.

Yep, but that's in 2012, dude. They aren't bidding for the games in 2012, they're bidding for the games NOW, and the IOC is going to go where they can get their grubby little hands on money now. And I really can see them doing it just to sell the idea to every little nation on Earth that they really should compete for the 'honor' of hosting, because, look, if Brazil can get an Olympics, so can everyone else. It's a great way to increase bidding wars for future games.
Edit : Yeesh...sorta realized I'm coming off a little surly, here. Only had about 2 and a half hours sleep, so please don't take it personally, man. In the meantime, I think I'll go have a nap.
Re: One last olympic thread
Nah, you're probably dead on. Money makes the world go round!
