How to shut up Joe Morgan
Praise the offensive numbers of Ryne Sandberg and Jeff Kent.
During last night's Dodgers/Phils game, Jon Miller began doing the obligatory rattling-off of Kent's career numbers and his place among all time second basemen. He mentioned that he broke the HR record for second basemen, which was held by Ryne Sandberg, who broke Morgan's record. Even threw up a nice little graphic showing it.
Then he mentioned the hall of fame and basically pointed out that Jeff Kent is arguably the best offensive 2B ever.
Joe Morgan remained silent through the rest of the half inning, and for a few minutes into the next half inning, after the break. He even ignored Jon Miller directing a question to him at one point, which Jon Miller answered himself.
It was hilarious.

Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
If Justanewguy is from Chicago and especially if hes a Cub fan he has got to know who Hornsby was not only did he play for the Cardinals but also for the Cubs for like 3-5 seasons lol
Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
just remember most people dont REALLY pay attention to history
Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
Of course it was a joke.
And definitely *not* a Cub fan.
Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
What about a Bill Mazeroski inning, and a Brandon Phillips inning(Miller could say the Phillips is the Red's best 2b in history) And a Craig Biggio inning?
Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
Wow, is this for real? Are you sure Joe Morgan was "stewing in silence" or was he taking a "mens room break." If so, how are you sure?
I watched the game but unfortunately had the sound off (as I am wont to do with baseball games) and now wish I had seen/heard this part.
I'm not of the "Fire Joe Morgan" ilk, though I admit I've found his comments sometimes to be rather, well let's just say I thought Binglebop hit the nail on the head.
But I've always had a great deal of respect for the man, and this seems to trivialize him, if indeed he was sitting there fuming but silent. It also doesn't sound to me at all like Joe Morgan. I could easily see him making some sly off the cuff remark like "Don't forget your partner John" or something before acting childlike and just sitting in silence. I'd bet he was in the little boy's room.
Yes, announcers do have to "take a boy's room break" occasionally while doing a game.
Re: How to shut up Joe Morgan
He's had similar reactions to the notion that Jeff Kent may be a Hall of Fame quality second basemen.

He wasn't taking a bathroom break. I thought that at first, but he was in the heat of the conversation right before he shut up. At one point, they showed a bunch of fans in the stands wearing Hawaiian shirts and holding up signs for Victorino. Jon Miller said something like "Hey Joe, who do you suppose they're here to root for?"
There was no response. After a second or two, Miller finally started talking about "The Flyin' Hawaiian."
Morgan was absolutely dead silent for quite some time... it was very odd.
Bathroom break is possible, but it was odd timing, and odd that he had a question directed at him by name.
