No, that was a lowball play by AJ, and if they had to face each other tomorrow, well, I know what would've happened to him the first time up back in the day. Not so sure these days.
But I would've been watching. :D
LOL. Very funny but not even close to a fair comparision. AJ wasn't commiting a crime. He did nothing illegal. Nothing he did put anyone in danger or made anyone fear for their life. Are you really trying to compare robbing a bank and flopping in a sporting event?? If you believe this you are certifiable.
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
Isn't this the same as a basketball player flopping for a charge, a soccer player flopping for a foul or a football players flopping for a penalty? They do it all the time and officials miss it but you dont complain about that. Why isn't this different? It was a smart play by AJ to get a win for the Sox. Its just like Manu Ginobili flopping for the Spurs.

Well, I can't speak for others, but I DO complain about all that. THAT is precisely the reason I can't stand to watch soccer for any length of time.

*WHO* doesn't complain about diving in soccer? Smart play my ass, and if the nature of the game (Baseball) didn't prohibit such action*, I'd want to see suspensions for that shite.
*By that, I mean Baseball isn't a game where that kind of fakery comes into play much. The most being to pretend to catch a flyball that hit the ground first. I've seen once, just once, a player (in a college game) pretend to be hit with a pitch. He was hopping around and shaking his hand and the ump was having none of it and the announcers thought it was despicable.
At least baseball is a sport where you can police such bs by sending a message hurling behind a players head. Soccer has become so pussyfied it's impossible to send some retribution without getting a red card. Resulting in the kind of clownery we saw six years ago when Rivaldo was hit in the hip and grabbed his head like a sniper shot him. I don't want that fukking clownshoes action anywhere near my sport.

Yeah, you're right, that was a bad comparison.
I guess I was just trying to compare right and wrong. I hope you're not saying that anything's alright as long as you don't get caught. There are some actions on the field that are just unacceptable. Yes, the umps blew the call, but this was a lowball move by AJ, and I'd bet if you asked 100 major leaguers whether they thought it was in bad taste on a baseball field, a vast majority would agree.
Just because something's not illegal or you don't caught doesn't mean it should be done. That was a complete acting job just because he found himself in a bad baserunning situation.
And yes, I hate it when basketball players "flop" trying to draw the charge and like others I totally lost interest in the World Cup because of this crap. Everybody out there on a playing field, whatever the sport, is trying their guts out to be successful, and when someone else uses crap like this to try and gain a competitive advantage, it's just not looked upon nicely by their fellow competitors. Ask Shaquile O'Neil how he feels about players "flopping."

Baseball has and to a large extent still is, turning a blind eye to steroids. Soccer may have more "obvious" faults, but I think it's unfair to sweep that under the rug and pretend baseball is a clean sport. To me, cheaters like Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens are just as big as clowns as those soccer floppers.
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
Pierzynski is the premiere tool amongst a whole box of 'em on the AL Chicago team, but I have to agree with some of the people who posted already: he made a play, fair or not, to help his team, and it payed off. It was Busch league, but it helped his team win.
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
What's wrong with AJ Pierzynski? There's no reason to hate him...
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
If the umpires are going to call it, the players will do it. It's that simple.

Ozzie is a wackjob, there's plenty reason to hate Ozzie.
I don't know what's wrong with Pierzynski though.

He is a jerk. Just look at what he said about Magglio Ordonez on his wkipedia page, and all the other stuff he has said. And Perzynski is abnoxious. And Metsguy, you should not be talking. You hate many players and make that very clear
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
That is one of the most truly awful calls I have ever seen. You'll notice that Aybar runs into his right shoulder while running towards second. AJ then falls towards third base. How can he have been pushed over? He didn't even fall the right direction. Being a Twins fans this pisses me off even more, because that's why they won.
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
I like ozzie becaus he tells it how it is (usually not all the time) everyone should be so lucky to have a manager like him that lights a fire when its needed.
Re: I've never seen anything like that in baseball
And let's not forget the comments Ozzie made to Jay Marrioti.
