Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
You guys are missing the real point anyway. These Yankees under Hank are going to be different. They have stated that their short term goal is to "get out of paying the Luxury tax." And I believe them. Anytime a team changes owners is actually the biggest change a team can make, because you never know what that owner's priorities are.
I'm not saying Hank is going to accept mediocrity, he wouldn't get away with the that for long in New York and still draw 4 million, but I do believe his goals are different from George's "win at any cost" philosopy. I don't even see the Yankees signing more than 1 of those mentioned, possibly none.
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
Even if the Yankees offered some or even all of those players huge contracts, what makes you think that all those players would want to play for the Yankees? It's not all about the money, guys. After becoming a free agent in 1992, Greg Maddux was offered the most money by New York, but instead became a Brave. For one reason or another, the team that offers the most money is not necessarily the team that gets to sign the player.

True BTW "Who cares" who the Yankees sign ? They still will be the THIRD best team in the East - they have a HUGE hole up the middle (Posada is done as a FULL time C,Jeter will be 1 year old & CF - Melky ? LOL)
I really do hope they DO sign all the players mentioned because they will paper over the cracks without actually solving the Yankees major/primary problem.
Please,Please,Please sign SPs,RPs,corner OFs & 1Bs when they REALLY need a C,SS & CF:rolleyes:

Yea I believe Hank always (like when he said he wouldnt resign A-Rod if he opted out  ) Anyways getting under the L-Tax is a priority SIMPLY cause the Steinbrenner's don't WANT to pay Tax !
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
Although I'm not necessarily in favor of this, I think Frank McCourt's mancrush on all things Boston will lead him to sign Manny, using a big chunk of the money the Dodgers have coming off the books this year and taking it away from other needs they have. I could be wrong, and I rather hope that I am, but that's how I see it coming out.

I'm also somewhat fearful of that. I'd rather that money to towards CC-I hear he likes L.A. :) - but there are still a few offensive holes to fill up. 2B, SS, 3B
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
I also think that McCourt will use the recent pickup in attendance at Dodger games as rationale for a Manny signing. Given that McCourt was whining about decreased attendance a month or so ago, despite the fact that LA is always one of MLB's top-drawing teams, this looks more likely by the day. I'm just afraid of what Manny will be like once he gets that new contract and he goes back to being Manny.

Pavano 13 Million
thats 90 million of the books
buyouts for 2009 extentions
Giambi 5 million
Pavano 1.95 Million (lol)
7 million back on the books.
+-83 million just sitting out there. you figure cano gets 3 mill raise Wong Will get a Raise (maybe 5 mill long term deal)... so take 75 million to round off the #..
The yanks wont throw all +-75 million back out there BUT rumors are they are trying to get rid of Matsui thats another 7 million (lets say they have to pay about 1/2)
Damon after next year is a f/a saves 8.5 million. melky may be their solution

absolutly agree 100 %
Texeria and CC will be yanks next year of the met's don't grab texeria... Everyone forgets the Mets will be HUGE players in Texeria and omar is willing to spend...
Delgado 16 million (4 mill buyout 12 saved)
Pedro 11 Milion (no buyout)
Alou (thats right he is still there (7.5 million)
Hernandez 6.5 Million
thats 37 million.. they throw 20+ a year at Texeria and 15+ at sheets.
BTW guys that if LA lets him go. Vlad is done next year... how would they love to replae him with Texeria???
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
I was just lookin the angels have 34+- mill comming of the books this year... they might not be able to afford texeria... they already are at 120million and now they will need a closer
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up

If they're smart, they'll do the sensible thing and use an in-house option at closer. Like this guy.
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
Why don't they just keep Rodriguez? They have one of the highest payrolls in baseball.

He's going to test the free agent market. Maybe they'll resign him. But I wouldn't.

Value
For example
Texiera, Arredondo > Rodriguez, Arredondo
If I could only sign one of two, I think I know which I'd pick. But, I personally, don't think the closer position is hugely important.

Yep.
The "closer" role is far more replaceable than most people think.
Re: Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up
I think the Yanks will sign Sabathia and Teixeira, but not Manny, Sheets and/or K-Rod.
