I was there when Jim Leyritz popped a homer over the wall in 96 to help the Yankees beat out the Os. Then came Peter Angelos and Albert Bell. Whose fault is that? Because Angelos does everything in his power to make your team suck, why is it the Yankees fault? Angelos spent more money on keeping the Nats out of DC than his own team. Whose fault is that?

In fact, I played for the O'Connell Funeral Home Athletics when I was a kid. The Rangers always went through the Little League system and cherry picked all the best kids for the teams like you said. Luckily, we hung on to our 2 best pitchers and our shortstop. Anyway, we came in 2nd when I was in 5th grade and won the whole thing in 6th grade. I got beat up for 2 years because we beat them and I was at best an average player. Was it worth it? I still have the trophy on my shelf and remember the Rangers evertime they mow my lawn or pick up my garbage. LOL
I do mourn for the Orioles though. They used to be so fun to watch.

haha this reminds me of what I decided I would call my little league team after year after year we finished 5th.

No...the problem is when people talk about the Yankees winning as if it's some mystique, some magical thing that only happens with them, and that's why they're worthy of such admiration. It's just such horse hockey. The Yankees win because they buy other teams' star players. Period. If the Tigers spent as much as the Yanks do, guess what? They'd start winning, too. And we'd be talking about the ka-zillion World Series that were won by the Tigers.
And "but they always win, don't they?" is the worst excuse of all. Of course they always win. If you put the Yankees up against 29 Little League teams, they'd always win. You can stack the deck in Vegas, or load some dice...hey, you'll always win. What does this prove, exactly? Say the Yankees play that Little League team and win 36-0. Do you lean out of your car as you're driving away and scream, "WE'RE NUMBER ONNNNNE!!" at the kids as they trudge away?
Look, I got nothing against you. I don't even have anything - much - against the Yankee players. If somebody in a Yankee cap jumps up and says, "Go Yanks, beat the Sox! Go Jeter!"...then more power to 'em. But please, don't go off about how superior they are to any other team and how picked on you are because of people talking about the elephant in the room.

And, now that the shine has come off the team from those days, a lot of fans of other teams are now coming back with something akin to "Suck it up princess...welcome to the other side." NOTHING draws hate towards a sports franchise like douchebag fans...NOTHING. (And, again, I think you're starting to see the same thing happening towards the Sox, where some Sox fans are now acting like they're higher beings because their team is winning).
Oriole^ - You still have not proven your point though. Your team is still a large payroll team that underperforms year after year. If Tampa Bay wins the ALCS you will hate them too I suppose. How can you sit there and blame other teams? Baltimore has had every opportunity to be good. Nick Markakis is going to be an incredible player. I bet Baltmore trades him within 2 years for a crap pitcher and crap crap and crap.
I really hope the Red Sox win a couple more just to absorb the blow of hatred of shitty teams.

Clemens, Cone, Pudge, and O'Neill were originally acquired in a trade, where, yes, money plays a role, but it's far from the only determining factor. Also, I bet I can for most teams, name 3 good free agents and 4 good players acquired in trades in the last 15 or so years.Quote:

Incorrect. Which "star players" have the Yankees "bought" recently? Look at all these past winning Yankee teams. Guess what? A large portion of the rosters are homegrown. Sometimes theres a free agent or two that plays a major role, but that's the exception, not the rule. The Yankees have largely been built on homegrown players and shrewd trading. Yes, of course, the money gives them an advantage, but it's far from the sole reason for their success, and thinking otherwise is just willingly ignoring the many other reasons.Quote:

If money was the only thing that decided who won and lost...the Marlins and Rays (last and 2nd to last in payroll) and Diamondbacks (in the botttom 3rd) wouldn't be contending. The Tigers, Braves, and Mariners would all be better. Etc.
