Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I wouldnt vote for a position player that only played in 30-35 games either.

A starting pitcher has a much larger effect on a game than a single position player.
A starting pitcher faces more batters himself in 30-35 games than a single position player gets at bats in 160 games.
What you're saying is that no starting pitcher can provide more value to his team than any full-time position player? Yeah. Right.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I believe it should go to the best player. I think the whole "Most Valuable" think has been taken out of proportion.

Fine, this is semantics because to me best and most valuable are interchangeable terms, but I'll go with it.
How can you be the best player in the AL if you played less than half a season in the AL?
Or do you not think time spent on the field matters in who's "best"?

My head hurts.
It's not fair to the players that get traded. It's almost impossible for them to win.

Yeah, it sucks, but, that's how things work when you have two separate leagues, and awards for each individual league.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
You realize that a player could, technically, win both CY Young and both MVP awards in the same year.
-
Then you shouldn't be able to trade between leagues during the season if it's going to work like that.

Yes, but I don't believe in it.

I plan on sneaking Manny in at #10. An "MVP" in the true sense of the word, for that team.

Uh, why should the transaction rules be affected by the award rules?

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly possible for a player to amass enough value in half a season to reach the top 10. When you hit like Manny has, it's certainly possible. I'm not saying players that switched leagues shouldn't be eligible...I'm just saying, it takes a lot for them to overcome the pack of players that spent the whole season in that league.

They're not. They're affected by the fact that there's two leagues, each with separate awards.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I don't disagree with the majority of your lists, danny, but I'm curious why not one of the 5 closers in the AL putting up big numbers this year (Nathan, Rivera, Papelbon, Rodriguez, Soria) is on your Cy Young list. James Shields over any of those guys?

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Just posting to let everyone know that the voting will open immediately following the end of the regular season. Please make sure to read the rules prior to submitting your ballot.
I will post again when the voting opens.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Okay, I'm opening voting now. There's still at least two more games to be played (New York vs. Boston tonight and Chicago vs. Detroit tomorrow), with a possibility for a third game on Tuesday between Chicago and Minnesota, but I'm going to allow votes to be submitted starting now.
If you want to wait until the regular season is officially complete to cast your ballot, please feel free to do so. Voting will be open until Midnight, Tuesday, October 7th (as in, Monday's the last day you can cast your ballot).
PLEASE read the rules in full before casting your ballot.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING NOW OPEN
Awesome... I'm going to start working on my list tonight.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING NOW OPEN
I'm completely done with mine EXCEPT FOR...
AL manager of the year... my #2 and #3 rankings will be decided based on games yet to be played... it may even come down to a certain game that may or may not be played on Tuesday.
Aren't you afraid early voting might affect that particular award?

I'm going to trust the judgment of the voters. I'd hope that most people wait til the season is complete to finalize their ballots, but if somebody feels confident enough in their votes now, I'll accept them.

You can post and discuss your ballots in this thread, if you wish.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING NOW OPEN
Are the completely full results for each award going to be made available when everything is counted? Or just a certain number per award?
I want to see if my second place vote for Kuo in the NL RP award puts him above any other vote-getters.

I'm going to post the results similar to how Baseball-Reference does it.
Player Name - #1 of first place votes - # of points in all
Each player that is listed anywhere on any ballot will be listed in the results.

Cool! That'll make it a lot more interesting.

Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
Got a bunch of votes yesterday after voting opened, but none today. Hopefully that number picks up after the season officially ends. It'd be nice to get a good 25-30 ballots (we're at roughly 8 now off the top of my head, which different awards having a different number of ballots cast) :)
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
I'll be sending in a ballot, but it won't be until sometime this weekend.
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
I need to sit down and actually put some thought in to it...I'll try and get it done before the end of the week.
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
Just to be clear, wasn't trying to rush anybody! I'd prefer if people actually put thought into it and spent time on their ballots. Sorry if I jumped the gun a bit :).
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
We've got ~20 ballots right now. I'll consider extending the deadline a bit. Only possible problem with that is that people shouldn't take the postseason into account, but we'll see.
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
Yeah, I hope not, especially since they don't do that in Major League Baseball.

I know, they are perfect in MLB :D
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
Well, they have an MVP award for each round of the postseason, so no need to factor the postseason into the regular MVP awards.
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/7
I'm extending the voting through next Friday, October 10th.
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/11
Haven't gotten any ballots in a couple days :(
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/11
Maybe that means that all intending to vote have voted
-
Re: 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: VOTING OPEN UNTIL 10/11
Today's the last day that votes will be accepted.
