2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards: Results posted
So, I decided that I'm going to run a vote here on the forums for the major awards in each league. I'm posting this now to give everyone a head's up.
VOTING IS OVER. SEE HERE FOR RESULTS.
The deadline for submitting a ballot is midnight October 11th, so you have through Friday the 10th to send your ballot in.
Preliminary Rules:
- 1) All ballots must be sent by email to xxxpunkrock630 at aol dot com with the subject "Sports Mogul Awards", OR sent via private message to me with the same subject. Please do not send both an email and a private message. If you email it to me, please list your forum user name as well. You can post your votes on the forums, if you want, but only votes sent via email or PM will be officially counted.
- 2) Please try to be as unbiased as you can when voting. Please vote for players based on the merits of their performance and the award at hand, not vote for your favorite players even if they're clearly not worthy.
- 3) All ballots must be easily readable. Each award has multiple slots on the ballot. Please number your ballot for each award so that the spot you place a player is easily seen.
- 4) You do not have to vote for each award. Just make sure to designate which awards you are voting for. See the following for an example of an organized ballot:
Quote:
AL MVP
1) Player X
2) Player F
3) Player V
NL MVP
1) Player Z
2) Player A
3) Player B
AL Cy Young
1) Player 1
2) Player 2
3) Player 3
and so on. - 5) Please fill out the EXACT amount of slots available for any awards you're voting for. For MVP, please list exactly 10 players, no more, no less. For Cy Young, exactly 3 pitchers. For Gold Glove, exactly 3 players for each position, and so on.
- 6) Any ballots that don't adhere to these rules will not be counted. I will reply to you if your ballot does not follow the rules, and give you a chance to resubmit it in accordance with the rules.
The awards we will be voting on are as follows. Each award will have two winners, one from each league, so please vote separately for each league in each award. The numbers in parenthesis are the amount of players per league each voter must list on their ballot. For the 10-slot MVP ballot, a 1st place vote is worth 14 points, a 2nd place vote is worth 9 points, a 3rd place vote is worth 8 points, and so on down to a 10th place vote being worth 1 point. For a 3-slot ballot, a 1st place vote is worth 5 points, a 2nd place vote is worth 3 points, and a 3rd place vote is worth 1 point. For the 9-slot outfielder Gold Glove and Silver Slugger ballots, a 1st place vote is worth 11 points, a 2nd place vote is worth 8 points, a 3rd place vote is worth 7 points, and so on down to 9th place being 1 point.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Wait so how will this work? Do we say who we think is the most valuable to us in our game, or IRL?
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
reading is fundamental :p
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
IRL since this is Sports Talk
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I like this Houston :)
Maybe we can actually give an award to the Player...lol :)
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I suggest doing all major awards...it would be fun. :)
Gold Gloves, MVP, CY young, Silver Sluggers...ect.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
What about Roberto Clemente award? And LVP?
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I really think the Roberto Clemente award is the best or one of the best awards out there but I think we should stay with statistics.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Added Manager of the Year
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Would adding Exec/GM of the Year be too much?

Nah, probably not, I will.

Eh, the Rolaids Relief award in real life is done by a statistical formula, but I suppose we can make our own to be voted upon.
Japanese? I don't think enough people here follow the NPB to really get a good vote on that. Let's stick with the MLB.

You could probably declare this one right now. Even if they tank (doesn't look likely, but the Crawford injury is scary), there's no way Joe Maddon doesn't win this award, simply for giving them their first winning season.
However, if the White Sox pull some kinda magic, Ozzie Guillen would be hard to argue with. Especially given all that he and his team have gone through this year.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
Fan Favourite Player?
Minor Leaguer of the year?
Play of the Year?
Moment of the Year?
Game of the Year?
Comeback Player of the Year?
Just throwing anything I think of out there.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
I'm trying to stick to the real-life awards that are fairly major, and strictly in the majors. I'll add Comeback Player.
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
How about maybe an "All First Team" type of thing?
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
How about the RedsoxRockies player of the year award?
-
Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
The Metsguy234 Award- Awarded annually to every player named John Maine.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards

The DH has a Silver Slugger.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
If we there is gonna be a vote for the best reliever, than there should be a vote for the best DH. Like the Rolaids Relief award, there is an actually award for the best DH.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Martinez_Award
David Ortiz had won it for the past 5 years but someone might be able to take him this year. (Jose Vidro :D)

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
It's completely redundant with the Silver Slugger award. Different organizations give out the awards in real life, which is why there are sometimes multiples awards for the same exact thing. For our purposes, since we're not actually handing out any hardware, having two votes for the same thing is unnecessary.

Re: The 2008 Sports Mogul MLB Awards
And the best broadcaster?....umpire?...ballboy/girl?:D...I was going to add "hot-dog vendor" and "fan", but that would be -er- frivolous, wouldn't it?

Sorry. As I said, I'm trying to keep it in line with the real awards, and there isn't such an award in real life that I know of.
At least you're making solid suggestions...:p

That'd be interesting. I still think an "All First Team" could be too. I know they don't do it in baseball, but the voting on some of the positions would be a lot closer on that than on many of the other categories.
