I say a large construction beam will crush New Yankee $tadium, and then the debris from New Yankee $tadium will crush Yankee $tadium.
And that's the end of the Yankee$.
Paul O'Neill's number shouldn't be retired. Retired numbers should be reserved for the GREATS of a team. Very good players that played for 7 or 8 years with a team don't fall into that category.
It'll be either Jeter or Posada.
O'Neill, Goose, When Jeter retires it will be a Jeter/Murcer combo like Dickey/Berra!
I forgot about Goose...he'd be good for the next one.
Well I figured going on the whole HOF thing....
O'Neill may not go in but I wouldn't be shocked.
Jeter, Posada, Rivera are givens....Bernie Williams......
Forgot about the Sandman.
Willie Randolph would be a hit with the fans....
A-Rod, Mussina, Jeter,
FYI: They cant retire Rivera's number as it is alredy retired and after he retires he'll be the final player to wear #42
they can do what the cardinals did on the outfield wall like Suter/Robinson or Rivera/Robinson
Yeah they can totally retire it since he was grandfathered in!
A-Rod....would have to play a few more years with the Yanks......
I really can't see anyone until Jeter/Posada/Rivera/Pettitte are done. MAYBE Bernie Williams, but that's a pretty big maybe.
I asked this question once, and although it's not in danger of happening anytime soon, what would happen if a team ran out of numbers (having retired so many)? The Yankees have a lot of numbers retired, so would they use letters on the uniforms if that happened?
What about Donnie baseball?
This message was brought to you by the Yankees Educational Network!
RickD for president!
Aaron Boone.
Boone played one year and will never have his jersey retired.
How 'bout Bill Buckner?
Ha Ha....not for the Yanks but maybe for the Mets!
Bucky Dent
It would have happened by now....I don't see it happening for guys who achieved one highlight in their career but more for the guys who epitomized the "Yankee" spirit.
Williams, Jeter, Posada, Goose, Rivera type guys.....
Maybe Cano... I hope.
Too early to tell.
But hopefully.
Yeah....if he has a few more seasons like this one though I'd say no. I like Cano but he has dissapointed this season.
I hope to God that we fire Kevin Long.
Even as a Sox fan, I'd be happy to see Bernie Williams get his jersey retired. I have tons of respect for him.
Jeter is a shoo-in.
Even if 42 weren't already retired, it would be.
I just went back and looked...I didn't realize Goose played that many years for the Yankees. I always think of him with the A's, mostly because I was too young to pay attention before that. My only thought of Goose with the Yankees is "pine tar."
Oneil... not a chance!!!
Williams... kind of a stretch
I'd say Jeter
Even posada is possibly a stretch to more likely than bernie

Only Bill Veeck, and only once. I don't think anyone's likely to bring up a 3-foot-tall player again, either.
I find it highly unlikely that any team will retire 75 numbers (the amount they'd need to get to to keep from having a full roster's worth). Not any time in the forseeable future.
I just forgot a big one. Joe Torre.
Anyone? Bueller?
