David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
Here's a local article about David Price, he definitely looked damn impressive. In 10 years of having double A baseball here he was probably the best pitcher I've seen here, and that would include Ben Sheets(Huntsville), Zambrano(West TN), Marmol(West Tn) and I probably could think of several more.
Re: David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
Since you seem to be familiar with the team, maybe you can answer a burning question of mine...
What exactly is a "Diamond Jaxx?" And what language involves things being spelled with a double "x"?
Re: David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
David Price is considered to be one of the highest rated pitchers to come out of college in the last 20 years. He will be the key to the Rays final run in Sept. Search the net to see his college stats. They are amazing.
The Diamond Jaxx are Seattle's AA team in Tennessee.
Re: David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
Sorry Chuckwillard. Read it wrong. Jaxx is because they play in Jackson, TN. You can figure out the diamond part.
Re: David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
The diamond part I did get. I didn't know they played in Jackson, that makes sense (well, a little more than it did before).
It's a toss up for me: Diamond Jaxx or Iron Pigs...which is a more unique name for a baseball team?
Oh, and then you have the Albuquerque Isotopes, which is probably the only professional sports franchise named after anything on the Simpsons.
I love minor league baseball:D

Used to be the Cubs Double AA. Become Seattle's team last year

Correct, when the team moved from orlando, they let the fans vote on what the team name was going to be.

can't beat Montgomery.... an Olympic-esque mascot!
Re: David Price-Tampa Bay Rays #1 pick
The Southern League has some unique names, The Bisquits, The Mudcats, and the previously mentioned Diamond Jaxx

The Paw Sox was always a favorite of mine, too. But they've changed now and they're just the Pawtucket Red Sox.
There used to be an indy team called the Newark Barge Rats. That probably would top my personal list.
