The day Baseball Changed Forever
It was June 27th, 2010. The Mets were taking the field for Batting Practice on the turf of the new Yankee Stadium. Just as the batting cage was being set up, Michael Mutinski was taking his seat 5 rows back from first base, the seat he has had for 3 months now, for every home game of the Yankees. He sat intently for two hours, staring out at the field he has seen dozens of times from that exact spot. He really wasn't a baseball fan. The reason he had came to these games was very different then that of most people there, and they were all about to find out what that reason was. Once the game had started, Joba Chamberlain had got the Mets 1-2-3 in the first, with two strikeouts. Melky Cabrera came up in the first, and roped a liner to center, which was caught by Carlos Beltran, as Michael walked up to the Upper Deck. He say a man in the front row, one he was sure was by himself.
"Excuse me sir, would you like to switch tickets with me? I got this from a friend, but I'd rather sit up here to get a better view." Michael said.
"Of course! Thank you, very much!" The man said.
As Michael took his new seat, he sat his duffel bag at his feet, the bag that would change the baseball world forever.
To be continued...

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
Once Derek Jeter doubled down the left field line, and Alex Rodriguez stepped to the plate, it was time for his plan to be put into affect. He reached down into the blue workout bag and unzipped the secret compartment. In his hands were two small round objects, Jet black. Michael popped off the small hooks one at a time, and threw the first one near home plate, the second one right after, near second base. The exploded upon impact, covering the field in black smoke, causing complete chaos. Fans ran in every direction, screaming, but being held back back by police officers. The police were very nervous as well, but acting calm. Once the call was sent into the main station, dozens of squad cars rushed tot he stadium. The PA announced "Everyone please remain calm. The Police will handle this situation, everyone please cooperate."
Many other officials in orange and yellow jackets that read SECURITY crowded the section of Michael, and easily found him, the only guy still sitting in his seat. He was looking at the field as if nothing had happened.
"Excuse me sir. Did you throw those bombs?"
"Yep, I did. What's it to ya?" Michael said in his southern accent.
He was taken away in one of those swat team vans, just as two fire engines were pulling onto the field through the tunnel. The smoke was cleared in minutes, while all the fans were being evacuated. Originally, the chief of Police had ordered all officers to get fans into bomb shelters, mainly the bathrooms. Now a call was being sent out through the radio: "All officers inside get fans out of the stadium. Officers outside DO NOT let anyone leave. Do not let anyone go back into the seats NO MATTER WHAT!"
The emergency workers, meanwhile, had the field cleared. At home plate, Alex Rodriguez was lying soundless. Derek Jeter was the same 10 feet from second base, and, as it turned out, 29 other players from the Mets and Yankees, plus 7 coaches. The Survivors were found in the Clubhouse, crouched behind desks and in bathroom stalls. They were led out of the stadium and back to their cars. In the mean time outside, there were thousands of very frightened people shouting at officials for information and help. To make it worse, fire fighters were holding back hundreds of reporters and photographers. After hours of questioning fans, they were let go, and the next day, the stadium and all the streets around it were closed off, and 106 people were announced dead, including the 37 players and coaches.

MLB Halts Action
MLB commissioner Bud Selig announced just hours after the incident at Yankee Stadium that the MLB will stop games for at least a week, maybe more depending on what is decided at MLB meetings today.
June 29th, 2010:
Selig Found Dead
An assistant of Selig's went into his office to relay some information from a phone call when she found the commissioner dead on the floor. Police and medics were rushed tot he scene, and a bullet was found in his throat. Investigators also found a note on the desk that said
"The MLB will go down. -Gestenate"
Police believe "Gestenate" is the name of a conspiracy group, who planned the Yankee Stadium Bombing.
All MLB players were flown back to their hometowns, and all MLB executives and team executives were put under 24-hour security watch, and moved to undisclosed locations across North America. All Major League Stadiums were also put under watch, with no one allowed within 2 blocks of any stadium without a security check.

Epstein named new commissioner
MLB Owners named Theo Epstein the new commissioner of Baseball, via a conference call. Epstein is now the youngest man to become commissioner of baseball, as well as the youngest to be a GM. The owners picked him because of his baseball knowledge, education and youthful new ideas. The new GM of the Boston Red Sox is undecided, but David Ortiz was quoted saying, "We don't need a GM. We already a Goo' enough team, we jus' need maybe one free agent signing a season, and anyone could do that."
Epstein said he will "First meet with the owners and decide how to protect the game, it's properties and players and executives."
In other MLB news, Michael Mutinski was prosecuted in federal court today, and was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but will be questioned by authorities about Gestenate.

Gestenate Busted
In a press conference today, FBI spokesperson Amanda Shelton announced that Gestenate was found, after hours of questioning of Michael Mutinski. A swat team unit surrounded a small house in Manhattan and found five men inside. Once arrested and taken tot he nearest Police Station, they were all identified as Gestenate members and trial dates were set for July 4th.
Theo Epstein then held a press conference two hours later and announced there will be one game in 5 days on July 5th to honor all that died in the June 27th game at Yankee Stadium. The game will be an exhibition between the Red Sox and Phillies. It has not been decided yet when the MLB will resume play for the season.
An hour later, Epstein hosted a show on ESPN, letting people call in to talk or ask him a question. Most callers were very upset, and lost their faith in baseball, and even other pro sports, though most were not Yankee or Mets fans. Within the day, many calls to the commissioner office were being taken, so many in fact, that thousands of people were on hold at some times. Most people were very upset, and got even angrier when the phone operators explained it wasn't the MLB's fault. Theo Epstein then announced another press conference will be held on July 1st, at 1:0 PM eastern time.

Can't wait to see it. Yeah, this is pretty action-packed for my dynasties. Usually it's just some nerdy guys having meetings after running two blocks from lunch :p

Phillies-Red Sox game a disaster
Only 15 fans showed up for the exhibition game that honored all that died during the June 27th game at Yankee Stadium. The game was originally going to be televised on SNY, but after the ceremony featuring military members and family members of those who died, a banner was placed beyond the centerfield wall with the names of those who died, and Theo Epstein walked onto the field. Once he was at the microphone by Home Plate, he took a pause and said, "This game has been cancelled, because of my earlier decision. I set this game too early, and no one is yet ready to play again. Thank you all for coming folks, have a nice day."

Gestenate Members sentenced
Members of Gestenate were sentenced to 30 years of jail each for conspiracy and murder. The trial was delayed one day due to one member of the group being passed out as he was banging his head against the metal wall of his holding cell.
While being questioned during the trial, Authorities found out that the group was planning to destroy Fenway Park after many questions trying to find out what plans they had to destroy baseball. They planned on getting some guys on a roof a few blocks from Fenway Park, who would shoot down the security guards outside of the stadium. Then other members would rush down the block, break through the gate and throw about a dozen bombs all over the park. Gestenate also said they had two others who were part of the group, either in New York, Cooperstown or Baltimore. Once MLB lawyer's asked about their names or where they actually were, all Gestenate members pleaded the 5th and said they were guilty on all counts they were accused of, and were promptly taken away by Court Security, who also held back very angry MLB lawyer Dean Gestan, who ended up popping a blood vessel while yelling at the convicts.

MLB cancels season
In a press release yesterday, Theo Epstein announced the MLB will not be playing the rest of the season, and no World Champ will be crowned for the first time since 1994. The best record in baseball right now is the Giants, who have a 52-28 record, but, come on, they're the Giants. Theo said that plans are being made for the 2011 season, such as schedules, how many teams the MLB will have and how to get fans back.
The press release said they reasons for canceling the rest of the season include: everyone's feelings from the June 27th game of not being able to focus on baseball, the loss of fans, the danger of other "Baseball-haters" roaming around, the death of stars of the sport and others. Theo Epstein will have a press conference with two other MLB spokespersons on July 10 to answer questions. The location of the conference is secret and will only be revealed to media members for the safety of the commissioner, MLB officials and media members.
Epstein will also host another show, to answer fan's questions today on the MLB Network at 3:00 PM EST today.
At the show...
"Hello, this is Theo Epstein, commissioner of baseball, here to answer your questions about the recent events in the MLB. Let's take our first call, Sinclair from Richmond, you're on."
"Hey 'dere, Theo, I was wondrin' 'bout the absence of the two teams in Naw' York. Will they be replaced?"
"Well, Sinclair, we don't like to use the term replace, because you could never replace two amazing teams like that and all their history, but we are talking about the possibility of bringing in two new teams for the 2011 season, but not necessarily to New York. Let's go to our next caller in Santa Monica. Nick, you're on."
"Heyyy, Dude..... I wanted to ask about what the MLB is doing to catch Gestenate's remaining members."
"Well, pretty much nothing. I'm not even sure there are two more members, and if they're are, we don't have to do anything but let the FBI use up all YOUR tax dollars to protect me while I sim in my private pool of five-hundred dollar bills. By the way, that's all the time we have today, so i'll see you next time here on this un-named show."

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
MLB news pretty much stops there for a little while as the Feds go after the baseball-haters, which is their newest nickname. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Chuck Luskon, former executive of the 2005 Champion Chicago White Sox. I resigned from my position after the 2006 season, and went to work on my own website, with three other people where we mainly write about MLB news and our opinions, but also have draft guides for Fantasy Baseball. I've loved writing for the website, and with thousands of readers, it's a great job. But i've missed the helping out a big league team, and miss my dream of being a GM even more. Right now, our website is taking a big hit from the MLB canceling the season, resulting in countless angry comments on the site and 513 cancelations of our e-newsletter in the past four days. I'm talking to my writers about selling while we can still get some what of a price (We made $356,000 last season, our first of charging for extra services) and doing something else. Right now my plan is to sell for around $500,000 and get a job as a Big League executive. I will of course update you here on the blog.

Gestenate members were lying
After another round of questioning on July 31st, FBI members found out that the members were lying in court when they said that Gestenate still had two members loose. They said they were lying to get the trial over with, once they knew they were cooked, and also to put more fear into baseball fans and executives. The members were then sentenced to five more years in prison for perjury.
MLB executives will now be able to meet in one location with the commissioner's people on the fate of the MLB, in a secret underground cave somewhere in Arizona. They will discuss teams for next year, what to do with the remaining players from the New York teams, and possibly a new logo for the league which will have a new look for next year.

MLB announces Expansion
Yesterday, MLB spokesperson Mina Mesterot announced to the media that the MLB will have 30 teams for the 2011 season. The teams will be in Tucson and Portland, Oregon, but nothing else has been decided about team management or info, but the expansion draft will take place on December 23rd, in Las Vegas, a central location between the two new cities.

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
Two Arizona teams  There will be no money lol
-
Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
Yeah, but they are about 100 miles apart. I may just reverse the decision and go to Orlando or Las Vegas or New Orleans. WHich would be best?

this is a test
just ignore it

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
I would say maybe New Orleans. There is two teams in Florida already, and Vegas is not great in this game

MLB Flip-Flops on Expansion
In a press conference yesterday, Theo Epstein nervously told the media that the Tucson expansion team would actually be placed in New Orleans, his face red the whole time. After he was done speaking, he braced himself for the questions of how dumb he was, but instead, they all began to giggle and ask about the expansion draft. The expansion draft will feature players from current MLB teams, as every team will have to drop one pitcher either in AAA or the majors, and the same thing for a hitter. Portland and New Orleans will take turns picking players, with New Orleans having the first pick because of a coin toss. The press conference was then ended once an angry mob from Tucson began attacking the building.
September 21st, 2010
Brewers moving
The Milwaukee Brewers will be headed to New York for the 2011 season. The MLB decided to make them the team of New York because of their poor fan loyalty (just over 15,000 people per game) and the Brewers are the worst team financially, in profit per season and cash on hand. The team will move to Brooklyn, but the team name is undecided (hint, hint, we're up for suggestions.)
I'll be starting the actual baseball season soon, sorry for the nearly 3 pages of posts before that happens, but I wanted to have a good plot to start with, and it had to take about 2 pages. thanks for reading!

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
It's official. My site is now being shut down, since no one wants to buy it. All companies I talked to couldn't find anything to do with it, but we'll leave our offer for the site in exchange for $450,000 open for 6 months in case anyone changes their mind. But this is not a bad thing at all. Because, well, first, I'd like to thank everyone who read this site for so long and followed my writing, but now, it's time to move on: I got a call from Mark Cuban yesterday, who wants me to be the GM for his team. What team? Well, when he missed out on the bidding in 2008 for the Cubs, he tried to get a team since then but no one was selling. But just last week, he got a call from Theo Epstein, who told him two new franchises were available. To make sure he didn't miss out on this chance, he bid $950,000,000 for the Portland Beavers. He knew me from my work in the MLB and now wanted me to be his General Manager, and I could even pick six guys of my own to work for the front office. I'm so excited, and I don't want my fans to miss out on this experience with me, so I'll be starting a new blog to talk about my GM experiences, (which will be on this dynasty thread). I'll be doing a few entries soon, but mainly I will be preparing for the expansion draft in December.

Well, you could call the Brooklyn team the Trolley Dodgers, but there are no more trolleys in Brooklyn, so how about:
The Brooklyn Guys Who Run Into The Street and Try Not to Get Hit by Cars?
:D

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
Okay, my serious idea is:
The Brooklyn Kings.
Since Brooklyn= Kings County

Lol, Love the first one, but it wouldn't fit into the logo :(, ao I'll be going with the Brooklyn Kings, thanks for the suggestion!

Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
I'll be done with my draft likely Thursday, but in the meantime, I'll introduce my dynasty rules and information:
Dynasty Rules:
-No exploiting the AI too bad:D
-Only one Offseason FA signing of 85+ per offseason.
-Only one in-season FA signing of 85+ per season
Dynasty Information:
-Mogul Difficulty
-I will be managing/ GM-ing the Portland Beavers, and all other teams, including the New Orleans Flamingos will be computer-managed.
-Both Expansion teams will have $20,000,000 to start with.
-There will be no DH in either league.
-I will manage the first game of each series for Portland in PBP one-pitch mode, then sim the rest of the series and give detailed recaps for manager games and not-so-detailed ones for simmed games.
The expansion draft will be 50 rounds, and I'll post a recap as a Spreadsheet with player name, round drafted, peak and overall and position.
-
Re: The day Baseball Changed Forever
I'd give each expansion team 20M

Before I went to manage my first game, I set the final lineup for the season:
The Lineup:
1. Juan Pierre: My easy pick for the leadoff spot, with a 92 contact and 94 speed, the two most important skills for a leadoff man.
2. Delmon Young: Has a 91 contact, which we need to move over Pierre for when we need get him on base so the power guys can drive him in.
3. Kory Casto: Best power we have with an 84.
4. Miguel Montero: Has an 84 power, and the best overall rating on the offense besides Young.
5. Mark Kotsay: Has an 86 contact, which will help protect my best hitters at the top.
6. Jorge Meske: 80 Contact makes him the best hitter left.
7. James Desi: I like his 93 eye, but not much else for offense.
8. Clint Barmes: Only in the lineup for his defense
9. Pitcher’s Spot

Beavers vs. Orioles
Portland, Oregon
Daniel Cabrera vs. Jason Vargas
1st Bill Hall had an RBI single with 2 outs, and Vargas had 3 K’s in the inning.
1st I motioned for Juan Pierre to bunt, which he popped up to make one out.
Young and Casto also flied out to end the inning.
2nd Daniel Cabrera had an RBI single. This is going to be a looooooooong season…
Double play to end it, and it’s 2-0 O’s.
2nd Montero is the Franchise’s first baserunner, with a walk to start the inning.
James Desi had a sacrifice fly for our first run, and Barmes hit another sac fly to get the corners with runners, 2 out and Vargas up at the plate, who strikes out.
End of 2, it’s 2-1 Orioles.
3rd We brought the infield in with a runner on second and one out, but it made no difference as Nolan Reimold hit a 2-run homer. Two K’s in a row got Vargas out of the third.
3rd Cabrera has thrown 50 pitches through 3 innings, allowing only 1 hit now.
4th 1-2-3 for Vargas, he now has 6 strikeouts.
4th Kotsay now has the 1st and 2nd hits in franchise history, both doubles. It’s one out for Meske. Desi singled with 2 out, which was not enough to bring in Kotsay. Barmes grounds out and strands two.
It’s 4-1 Orioles.
5th After a very costly error by Pierre, it’s 2nd and 3rd with one out. This time, I’ll take my chances with Bill Hall instead of Reimold. Hall singled in one run, and Luke Scott struck out. A THROWING error occurred on a easy ground ball to first, and Ramon Hernandez had 2 unearned runs score on the play. A walk to Aubrey Huff made me curse at my defense and call the bullpen, with Vargas at 101 pitches. A Strikeout to Daniel Cabrera signaled the end for Vargas tonight, and a glove-throwing and chair tossing episode by Jason.
5th Jesus Guzman came into hit for Vargas.. and knocked a triple into the left field gap.
I told Delmon to scarify fly Jesus in, but a 381-foot homer to right works too. 7-3 Orioles. After Casto K’ed, Montero got a double into right-center field. Kotsay then flied out to end the inning.
6th Volquez came into pitch. After a single by Brian Roberts, he stole second AND third, then got knocked in by Jones’ double. Two more fly outs led us to the bottom of the sixth.
6th Two walks to Desi and Meske, followed by a single by Barmes, led us to Bases-loaded, no out. I left Edinson into hit, since we’ll need him to go more than 1, and he got the RBI single! Pierre then got his first hit for the Beavers and knocked in another. Delmon Young grounded into a 3-6-3, but got a run in. Casto doubled, and suddenly we are forgiven for our terrible play earlier by the Baseball Gods and it’s 8-7! Thanks to the four-run 6th, it’s now 8-7 O’s after 6.
7th Despite a balk, Volquez got Hernandez looking, and a ground out to third. The O’s strand Scott at second, and we go to the bottom of the 7th.
7th I asked Meske to bunt for a hit, mainly to move the runner over, but also try and get Kotsay to second after his walk. We need to play small ball with the little power we have. He bunted for the hit, and I’m letting Desi hit. A wild pitch moves the runners up, and I call for the sacrifice fly. It works, getting Kotsay in to tie it at 8. After 7, it’s now tied at 8, with Volquez going out for his 3rd inning.
8th After a double by Fahey, Roberts lined out, but we have the two best Baltimore hitters coming up after Adam Jones. Yes! Two lineouts, and a groundball and we have the chance to take the lead for our closer.
8th Pierre botched another bunt attempt, and Young lined to left, as did Casto. Going into the ninth, it’s still tied.
9th Bill Hall singled to open the inning, and Scott walked. Joseph Bisenius came into pitch, after 76 great pitches from Volquez. In just 8 pitches, Joe get a K, a lineout and a grounder for an out. We’ve got a chance to win it now, in our first game of our franchise…
9th Montero led off and flied out, and Kotsay struck out. It’s all up to Jorge Meske now, who has two walks so far. A pop-out will send us to extras.
10th Bisenius is left in, and strikes out the first guy he faces, along with the second. And third.
10th James Desi, Clint Barmes then most likely a pinch hitter in the bottom of the first extra inning. Barmes doubled. Cole Armstrong will now hit. I also put Ian Vanderveer at second to run, since he has a 95 speed. Armstrong only popped up, with Pierre up to decide the fate of the game, which he can not come through for us, by grounding out.
11th Ramon Troncosco is our new pitcher. Excellent work by Bisenius. After a pop-out, Hall singles through the middle for Luke Scott. Ramon gets him swinging at a fastball clocked at 95, and Ramon Hernandez is now up. He flew out.
11th Delmon flies out to left, and Casto is now up. Casto draws the walk, for Montero to hit. Montero hit a 300-foot liner to right, but Reimold could not handle it, so it’s 1st and second for Kotsay to hit. Mark flew to right, but Casto tagged up and reached third, Jorge Meske at the bat against Chris Ray. Meske can not drive him in, so we’ll be playing another…
12th on Huber cam in to pitch. Huff singled, and a pinch hitter will be up now. He gets a single, now 1st and 2nd, nobody out. The sac bunt is perfect, and Brian Roberts is hitting, but I’m intentionally walking him to face Adam Jones. A flyout brings in a run, it’s now 9-8 in favor of Baltimore. A groundout gets us to the 12th, with a 1-run deficit to make up.
12th Jamey Carroll will pinch-hit for Vanderveer, who has poor hitting vitals. Look for him to get about 140 pinch-running opportunities this season, and 10 starts if no big injuries take place. Carroll Pops out, and we’re done to our last bench player, Jose Coronda to pinch hit, who singles for Pierre, who’s 1-6 tonight. Pierre pops up, and we lose a very tough one on our opener.
MVP of game: Bill Hall: 4/6, 2 RBI.
LVP of Game: Juan Pierre: 1/7, missed out on a couple clutch opputinities and had a huge error in the 5th that led to two runs. Also popped out on 2 bunt attempts.
