So, I'm going with....Manny is definitely traded. No idea where he's going, or who else is involved.
:p

This shat is crazy...
ESPN doesn't even know this yet.
Something tells me this didn't happen....
Word now is a three-way deal with Pittsburgh, sending Bay to Boston.
LOL! Sports Mgoul forums is the first to know!
It's on ESPN now.
Word on NESN is Manny, Hansen, Moss for Jason Bay basically. Sox got a$$ raped. But they had to move him.....:(
I spend alot of time in Pittsburgh and have family...Bay is a standup good guy who has done tons in that community. I kind of like getting a player like that.
Holy crap!
Well, mlbtraderumors and Rotoworld had it before we did. We, obviously, got it from somewhere... :p
Arg!!!!!!!!
mlbtraderumors.com:
Damien Moss? do they mean Brandon Moss?Quote:
Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is headed to the Red Sox. The Pirates will receive Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Damien Moss and releiver Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.
I'm pumped. I'm a huge Bay fan and Manny was getting on my nerves but how does La end up with Manny for andy Laroche and Bryan Morris??????
I used to like Bay. I used to like J.D. Drew too. All my favorite players seem to turn evil. :p
This will really help the Dodgers young outfielders develop nicely.
plus Pittsburg made out like Bandits here!
Joe Torre with Manny Ramirez? I thought I'd never see the day.
I like it. I've been a huge Bay fan for a long-time and I think he'll do great in Boston. He should do well not having to hit in the Hitter's Hell that is PNC Park, and he should have a great time peppering balls off the Monster. Not to mention Bay is a far better defender than Manny ever was or could be in his wildest dreams.
On another note, good trade for the Pirates. LaRoche and Moss should prove to be at least solid as ML players and Hansen could/should be good as well.
Its really a pretty good trade on all sides.
I hope Torre benches him for childlike behavior.
I am high on Jason Bay - this is phenominal. Too bad we gave up extras - Hansen? Moss? an I hope its not Brandon.
the link to Damian Moss you posted is a Braves minor league pitcher. I dont think the Sox traded him...
Aren't both LaRoche brothers in Pittsburgh now? Good stuff!
Dodger fan says...this trade makes me very nervous...must soak it in for a while
edit: Kent and Manny...that could be fun
It's:
Manny to LA
Bay to Boston
Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss, Andy LaRoche, Bryan Morris to Pittsburgh
I'm glad LaRoche is out of LA. Hopefully Pittsburgh just inserts him into the lineup and lets him play.
I think it's a good deal.
Manny had the BoSox distracted. Now they get rid of him.
Jason Bay with a David Ortiz and J.D. Drew protecting him? Kind of a scary thought.
Going to be an excellent race in the AL East.
Plus, though Bay doesn't have the offense that Manny has, he his an improvement on defense. When you factor it all up, and factor in the distraction negative value, this is probably an upgrade for the Bosox. Lots of their fans might not feel that way, but it just might work out that way. Then again, it might not.
anyone know how much money is involved in this???
Doesn't really matter this trade is awesome. I'm a huge Bay fan and even though he isn't as good as Manny offensively Bay's fielding and baserunning(and getting rid of Manny's attitude) makes up for it. Not to mention the 12.5 Million dollar difference in salary next year.
I like Bay so bye Manny. Similar production, less headache, but they did give up a TON to get him.
LA now has 5 outfielders on the roster for 3 starting spots. I see Manny obviously starting and maybe Pierre and Kemp/Eithier starting.
Manny certainly should help the Dodgers offense, and hopefully the big assclown will be motivated to play well these last two months since he'll get his wish and be a FA at the end of the season. Fortunately it appears LA didn't give up much to get him (so much for those Kemp "rumors" coming out of Boston). LaRoche will get his shot to either prove he can hit in the bigs or fall flat on his face.
I'm not. He was set to be the starting 3B this year till he got injured. Then DeWitt was doing too well to be sent down. He would have been the starter next year.
Part of the problem was the Dodgers. A bigger part was circumstances

I dunno what this means, but the couple Yankee fan friends I have are very chatty all of a sudden
You know, Bay is probably better now than Manny is in just about every way. Manny may be marginally better offensively than Bay, but his offense doesn't make up for his lack of hustle, his lack of defense, and his attitude.
