Head Hunting....

I think that Ohms makes some very good points in his post #70.

I, myself, am very sceptical of any "accidents" in the contact sports...I always assume that the wayward head-butt(boxing); spearing (hockey); late hit (football); chin-music (baseball); kick-in-the-head (soccer) is part of a pro athlete's tool-kit, and that no ref/ump should tolerate such nasty fouls.

At the very least, the likelihood of being grounded for head-hunting, should do wonders for a pitcher's control!

The majority of people would want some statistics before saying: no body can have a gun, no body can be out after midnight, no body can own a knife, no body can own any poisonous substances.

That's the difference. Throwing at someone's head is wrong. Killing someone is wrong. Not everyone who pitches up and in is trying to injure someone. Not everyone who owns a gun is a murderer.

On deciding intent. Maybe no one has to decide intent, but some one still has to decide what's "ok" up and in and what is "not ok" up and in.

A new day for me, a new thought....

One could say professional pitchers shouldnt make 'great mistakes', so while aiming inside they should be able to keep it away from the head. If they decide to go up and in, one could say they better be dang sure they know where its going. One could then say, if you hit the head....you're out automatically.

But then....i'm sure you'd have some dumb fu(k use highly padded helmets and head butt the ball to get their opponents ace out of the game lol!!

In the end....I still say the best approach is to have a committee review each near head throw and make a determination on intent. If they determine it to be intentional....fine/suspend.

I agree. If it is good enough for our legal system. It's good enough for baseball. If a pitcher is accused of head hunting then let a board review the facts and make a determination. Level some harsh penalties if you're found "guilty".

And get rid of the DH
