an who thought the trade market was slow this year. LOL
only 18 more hours to go, can it get done?
I sincerely hope we get Bay. I'm a big Pirates fan (they're my #3 team, almost #2), and I've liked Bay for a long time.
I'm not exactly sure what I've done to obviously pi$$ you off, but if you look at my posts through a microscope of antagonism, you'll find what you're looking for too.
And yes, ANYONE who loafs on a possible hit to break up a no-hitter is disrespecting the game. And ANYONE who loafs it to first in a 1-0 game is showing disrespect for his team.
It just so happens Manny did the former last night, and chose to not even play in a big game (even though, BTW, he's getting paid like a gazillion dollars to play).
I don't like Manny's attitude. You don't like mine. Fine, we'll both just have to deal with it.
In all seriousness (which is difficult here in the middle of watching the Angels play them), I think a deal involving Manny for Bay would be excellent for the Sox. I have a hard time believing that'll happen, simply because it would be so great. I don't think the Pirates are that cheap... but then, it is the Pirates...
I don't have issue with you at all. You're just being very critical of Manny...and I correctly pointed out that Ortiz, judging by your example, also loafed it. I"ve seen throughout the season Tek, Lowell, Ellsbury, Pedroia and every other sock turn off the burners while running to first on a ground ball. I agree Manny has had quite a few plays where criticism is deserving, and if you've formed an opinion of him that is fine. But that opinion, at least from what I see, blinds your ability to be fair and consistent and this post you made highlights that. I didn't see the play yesterday, but from what I heard Manny was out by a mile. Critique him for the stuff that deserves it, not for something that you don't critique every other major leaguer for, thats all i'm sayin.
I don't think Manny will be moving this trade deadline but there is a lot of talk going on right now.
I think getting Jason Bay back would be the best thing for them to do. And According to Jayson Stark the Dodgers contacted the Sox but said something along the lines of "Andruw Jones and prospects for Manny" and the Sox-Dodgers relations broke off.
I actually just looked at Bays stats, and although historically he's NOT in Manny's league as far as offense goes, other than last year he's not been far off and he's having a stellar year this year. So...although I'd still like to see the Sox find a way to get a RP in the deal...Bay would be a nice replacement. I know he's a great clubhouse guy and the media loves him, he'd be a good fit.
That's fair, but I have consistently posted examples all the time of players I see who loaf, and its not just Manny. I remember posting a while back about a game I was watching where with a man on first someone (can't remember who now) hit a pop-up to the infield. He was disgusted, threw his bat down and just walked toward first. The second baseman purposely dropped the ball, picked it up, threw to second (the man on first HAD to hold, it was a pop-up), then on to first to easily complete the double play because the batter was just trotting.
I've posted often about this because it is a pet peeve of mine. These guys (all of them) sometimes forget just how lucky they are. There are millions of guys that would sell their soul to play in the big leagues. And for the money they get paid, I don't think its too much to ask for them to run hard 4 or 5 times a night to first base.
This has ALWAYS been a pet peeve of mine. And I've seen Manny loaf to first, loaf after balls in left field, disrespect his teammates by not wanting to play in a big game, and have some brain fart moments too (though I don't hold those against him since we all have those) like when he made the "cut-off" on a throw in towards the infield. (A great diving catch too IIRC, LOL)
Personally, I think he and Bonds are two of the biggest jerks in recent memory. Yet both were gifted with enough ability they could've owned the world. It's sad really.
yeah, Bay isn't as good as Manny at his peak, but at this point in their respective careers, I'd say Bay is actually the more valuable overall player, due to similar offense and better defense.
Most recent chatter is that the they're discussing adding John Grabow to the deal, going to Boston, and Florida wants Boston to add in a prospect.
If this actually happen then the umpire was a complete *****. Its called an infield fly rule, and a double play should not have been possible here.Quote:

Well, from what I've seen of Bays numbers, the Sox should do everything they can to make this happen. Grabow doesn't excite me much. Bays youth however, if the sox could add a B-level prospect and get this done they need to do it. I don't want to see a Bucholz, Bowden, Lowrie, Anderson or any other near ready top prospect included though...not unless they can get a top rank RP included.
Well then, I stand corrected. I see why it wouldn't be an IF in this situation, but it seems kind of dumb that the defense can choose which runner they want on base by catching the ball or letting it drop. Getting a double play on something like this is pretty bad, the guy must have really been loafing and deserving of the criticism.
In the end, I personally don't feel what Ortiz did today or what every other MLB player does when jogging to first on a grounder, loafing. If fatguy does, thats fine as long as the criticism is consistent. It seems really picky to go after something like that, thats all I was saying.;)
LOL, wow it was LAST YEAR. LOL I was thinking "awhile ago". LOL
Oh well, it was last year, no wonder I had a hard time finding it.

As reported by MLB.com's Joe Frisaro earlier this evening, the Pirates, Red Sox and Marlins appear to be moving closer to making a blockbuster trade that would send Jason Bay to Boston, Jeremy Hermida to Pittsburgh and Manny Ramirez to Florida.
...
More news on this...there's a couple of possibilities here. One thing mentioned was Jed Lowrie being sent to Pittsburgh with Jack Wilson heading to Boston.
I like Lowrie and Wilson. But I really like Bay
Yea, but it is almost over. Francona probably does not even know about it
Heh, can anybody else get to the BP link I provided? It seems like the sites just stopped working...and I also see that Rotoworld has linked to it. So much traffic crash the server? :p
I went there so he knows what is going on and can get ready to make a decision if it goes through. Maybe it has been finished.
BoSox get:
Jason Bay
Jack Wilson
Hector Correa
Pirates get:
Jeremy Hermida
Jed Lowrie
Hunter Jones
Jai Miller
Marlins get:
Manny Ramirez
John Grabow
6M in cash
This the deal? I ask as I cant get that link to open
No, teh Sox get Bay and Garbow. We don't know who the Marlins get except Manny. The Pirates get Hermida
Houston, you could copy/paste the article. Its pretty short
Informing the Commish's office could simply be saying "Hey, we're close to getting a deal done that's going to need your approval because it involves a lot of cash, so here's a heads up."
Carroll says, according to Rotoworld, that the deal has been agreed to, pending Ramirez waiving his no-trade and league approval.
I thought that...I can totally see that happening
Link's working now... for me anyway.
