It really looks like this one might get done, though nothing is in stone.
If so, you could've given me 10 guesses on where Manny would go, and I still would not have guessed Florida.

Link? Don't see anything about this on MLB.com or ESPN.com
Yeah I'm not spotting this rumor anywhere either.
I doubt Manny will be traded, but all indications are that the only realistic shot would be with the Marlins, with sources indicating that Boston will pick up a large portion of his salary and get a guy like Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida in return.
I've heard this from Peter Gammons on the radio today, as well as Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, and I've read it at some other places as well, but can't remember exactly where.
Apparently a lot of people on these boards are really underestimating just how fed up Boston is with Manny. I really think he will be traded, though I would never have guessed Florida. Rumor has it that there are two other teams involved as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they included the Dodgers and/or Mets, but who knows.
And if he isn't traded, he's definitely not going to be with Boston next year.
EDIT: LOL, or maybe I'm overestimating how fed up Boston is with Manny. Should've added that one. I just really think the Red Sox are done with him. But, I might be overestimating.
Hermida would be a great trade for Boston.
And Manny not being in the American League would be amazing for the Red Sox
But he does become a FA at the end of the season so we will probably see him back in the American League for 2009
There's an article on SI.com discussing Manny getting traded, and mentions the Marlins. Plus, Peter Gammons has mentioned Manny to the Marlins, so I guess just put the pieces together.
I couldn't see the Marlins trading a young prospect for a rental player in Manny... It'd be freaking ridiculous for the Marlins to do that. I could understand trading Josh Willingham for him, but to trade Hermida (who is a very good prospect) would just be DUMB.
Hermida's not really a prospect anymore ;), but a very good young player.
I don't know, it wouldn't surprise me if the Mets made a serious play at him in free agency. And I wouldn't rule out the Dodgers making a play, though with that bone head Andruw Jones contract taking up such a huge chunk of money it might limit them.
But don't the Mets get out from the Delgado contract after this year?? Or does he have another year left?? I guess if he has another year left the Mets' hands might be tied too.
Hermida was a top prospect, but since making the big leagues, has been plagued by injury. I personally think he'll develop into an All Star player. He's got good power and solid plate discipline. Think a Bobby Abreu-type, with less speed.
Wow, I didn't even know about that play last night until just now. My old fat arse could've beaten that play out. Another Manny loaf to first base, and at the time in the middle of possible no-hitter. Talk about a disregard for the history of the game, that was total crap.
No wonder we're hearing the "Red Sox are in serious trade discussions" today. After deciding to not play in a 1-0 loss to an arch rival in the opening game of a 3 game series and then not running out a possible hit to break up a no-hitter, I think I'd be in serious trade discussions to.
Manny's mouth is running again, he told Espn Deportes that the Red Sox don't deserve a player like him. I believe Manny really wants out of Boston.
And I believe Boston wants Manny out of Boston too.
I'm starting to believe that too!
why doesnt he retire already? he's 38
well i know that i thought he was 38 hes only 36
And he can earn even more money, maybe win another World Series...
Like Houston said Manny is still one of the better hitters in the game...
Man, Gammons is livid.
You guys are to hard on Steve Philips.
Big News!
Manny to Marlins Hermida to Pirates Bay to Red Sox
Rumors are a swirling.
Bay or Hermida would be good, but Manny is Manny.
I can live with Jason Bay
No Manny? Sox fans want to get rid of Lugo and Crisp....? This place is starting to look like a Kiwanis Club.
I like Coco, I named my cat after him. Lugo, I did not name a cat after, for a good reason
Lugo is not a very good shortstop. Even from 2,000 miles away I can spot that. Is Jed Lowrie doing anything RedSoxRockies?
Coco is a legitimate player though. Even if he splits with Ellsbury.
I like Jed Lowrie. He could be a good contact hitter with some pop and a legit glove. Even if he did not meet his expectations, he would be better than Lugo.
meh, their loosing this year anyway. Time to deal them all away...
lol
lol deal Lowell and Ortiz and Beckett.
Get em out of Boston.
NOOOOOOo!!!!!
Sources say a deal is on the verge of being completed sending Manny to the Marlins for 3 players...
If this is true it will be epic. It will be the curse of the Man-beano.
Wow, bottom of 5th sox down by a run with 1 out and Big Papi loafs it to first. Total disrespect for the game and the team :rolleyes:
Seriously....no MLB player runs 100% on every ground ball. If you want to look at every at bat through a microscope of pessimism, you'll find what you're looking for.
Anyhow....its hard to believe all the rumors, just today I heard on WEEI that the Sox front office stated the media has blown the Sox/Manny relationship out of proportion, and although the Sox would look and entertain offers they are not in anyway greatly upset with the current situation. Now, I don't know if I definetly believe that, especially when you hear the opposite a few hours later.
Manny for Hermida or Bay...can't say I'd be thrilled with it. Its a significant decline in offense. I'd be more interested if a good young RP was included or prospect was included.
