BTW, I'm no fan of the wild card, so this isn't about that. But can anyone else remember being this late into the season and every single Division race (except the 11 1/2 game lead of the Angels) is within TWO GAMES ! !
My memory ain't what it used to be, but this is amazing to me to have 5 out of 6 division races this close this late.
Rob Neyer just wrote an entry in his ESPN Insider blog about how great the division races are shaping up to be, citing how so many teams have a legitimate chances at not only the playoffs, but first place - Rays, Red Sox, Yankees, White Sox, Twins, Angels, Mets, Phillies, Marlins, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and he threw in the Tigers, Rockies, and Blue Jays as darkhorse candidates.
Rumor on ESPN Radio today was that the Dodgers were interested in Manny and the question was whether or not they could get a deal done in time and if Boston could get enough back.
Now, Boston would need a bat and need RP. Kemp & Broxton?? I'd do it in a heartbeat and give the Dodgers cash towards Manny. Doubt LAD would do it, but would Boston take Kemp and another RP, or Broxton and SS Prospect Chin Lu Hu and then sign Bonds...or play Casey everyday at first and move Yuke to LF? All interesting possibilities. Would the Dodgers deal Kemp or Broxton...especially with their everyday closer now hurt?
The Dodgers have alot of young good prospects...talk was a three way where Boston would get Texiera. I'm not as crazy about that one but its intriguing. Looks like LAA will be getting Tex. Who knows.
Anyway, this trade deadline will be like many in the past....alot of hot air and only a few moves, or then again :)
