Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
The Pirates have traded OF Nady and reliever Marte. But they won't say to who, and for who. This is funny.
So, since we won't know for a day or two, might be fun to guess.
My guess, and this is biased because of hope, not knowledge, is
DODGERS.
For maybe Laroche and a minor leaguer.
Totally a guess.
Any others?
AND WTF WON'T THEY JUST ANNOUNCE ! ! ! !

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
Thank you! I just caught a bit of this during the Yankee game trying to find out who it was. I was hoping it was Bay, but oh well.
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
This is pretty weird lol. My Guess, New York for Ian Kennedy plus some, maybe Brett Gardener

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
SI is reporting its the Yankees, for basically minor league prospects.

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
I WAS RIGHT!!! It was too New York!! BOOO

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
THE YANKEES!!!
Ugh we traded Ohlendorf and Tabata. I was just getting attached to Ross. Marte will be a good addition. I just don't trust Nady enough to be real exited yet.

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
The SI article doesn't mention money. However, these are two very good major league quality players for basically 4 prospects. I'm betting some good ol'e New York cash is changing hands as well. Hope they report that too if its the case.

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
I hope they got that switch pitcher, he has a better chance there. Any one know how he is doing this season?

Here is the Yankees article on this:

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
VERY good pickup. I LOVE the move. I hate to give up Tabata, but Nady is having a great season, and we get Marte for 2 years (if we pick up his option). WS, here we come!
Go Yanks!
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
Yeah the only bad part to me for the Yanks is the loss of Tabata.

Yeah, i've heard alot about Tabata in recent years. He's supposedly the next Walter Johnson, just a step below Phil 'Cy' Hughes, and Ian 'Koufax' Kennedy. His loss will be crippling.
BTW....those pitches weren't close, that was TERRIBLE umpiring. I was in a bar most of the game so I can't say for sure if he was consistent during the game.
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
That's too bad, Lowell was having a real good at bat. Might've hit a walk-off. Instead, the guy behind the plate gets the call wrong. Mo Rivera, possibly one of the greats of our time...does he need the help, guys??

LMAO.....yup, just looked. Yanks still in third. But watch out, Nady & Marte on coming to the roster lmfao.
Can't you just admit the calls were rediculous? At least when its the other way around, the Sox admit so. I guess thats the difference between the fan base, some are honest and some are 8 year olds. :p

Even though I'm a Yankees fan, I'd have to say a 1-0 victory isn't really "kicking a**."
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
Actually he (Tabata) was an outfielder and Baseball America had him listed as the 3rd best Yankee Prospect!
I forgot to copy it but this was a response to Dickay.
Anyways I didn't see tonights game but caught glimpses online.
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
The ump was calling the high strike on that corner all day. The batters should have adjusted to it.
Tabata was a headcase, hopefully the Pirates can sort him out. Ross never had a chance in the lineup behind all the other pitching prospects.
The trade was okay, nothing to get real excited about.

I don't really mean that we actually kicked their *** or dominated. I am just basically stating that the dude is crying. Making excuses about the 'poor calls' and stuff. He also said this, "Nady and Marte were the two missing pieces eh?? lmfao." So, basically, he is just discrediting the move, even though Nady is better than any OF'ers they got not named JD Drew and Manny Ramirez. Marte is also better than any RP they got not named Jonathan Papelbon.
Whatever though, it was just all in good fun (my statement). We're already soaring in the standings over the last few weeks, and have one of the majors best records in the last month or so. I think it's like a .657 winning percentage or something like that, cannot remember.

Agreed, at the age most of the Yankees are, they shouldn't even try to get a leg high enough to kick an @ss. :p

Thats probably one of the least insightful things I've ever read. Thats like saying, this player is better than anyone, except for the players that are better than him . Also, I'm pretty sure I'd take Oki over Marte anyways.
And if you think the additions of Nady and Marte are gonna lead you to the promised land, you've got another thing coming. Are they good pickups? Yeah, definitely. But Nady can't cover up the holes left by Posada AND Matsui, and Marte isn't going to make the smoldering pile of c**p that is Kyle Farnsworth any better either. Nady does cover up at least Matsui, and Marte will help the bullpen some, but the Yankees need a lot more than an average to slightly above average outfielder and relief pitcher to get past the Red Sox, Rays, and anyone they have to compete with in the Wild Card race.
-
Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
How hurt does Manny's knee have to be to not pinch hit during the ninth considering he was hitting in the batting cage?

Umm... Take a look at Krazy Kyle's stats this year. Also, take a look at this "average to slightly above average outfielder"... Yeah, he's hitting .330, and hitting .292 ever since he stopped calling Petco Park home. Marte is also average to slightly above average? Really? Ok then...
Sir, I think this applies to your above wall of flawed text. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wKjxFJfcrcA

Yeah, hes hitting .330, thats great. His career batting average is .281, and I would expect him to regress closer to that over the course of the second half of the season. Even that .330 is only due to hitting extraordinarily well in July, prior to July he was hitting pretty average.
And yeah, he is, would you call a 3.47 ERA by a relief pitcher anything better than average? He was stellar last season, but hes not an elite pitcher.
I'm giving the Yankees plenty of credit for this move. It was a good move that helped their team, but neither of the players are any better than average to slightly better than average.

Marte has an ERA of 3.47. In addition to Papelbon...Lopez, Aardsma and Okajima all have ERA's of 2.87 or less.

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
Solid trade for the Yankees. They improve their roster without giving up anything major. Tabata has huge potential, but he's out for the season with an injury and had a couple "unofficial" suspensions due to his behavior this season. Ohlenddorf has a shot at being a decent reliever, but the other two guys are longshots.

Thats what I was trying to say. They got a couple solid players, but neither are spectacular.

Now thats fair. These two players will help but if anyone thinks these are the two links to the WS they are kidding themselves. It'll be interesting to see how both these guys handle the transition to the AL.

All this is subjective expression, the value of the trade will be judged OVER time - the first time line will be if the Yankees improve enough to get to the playoffs, the Second if they do Well in the playoffs (ie AL Championship series or beyond) & lastly HOW those prospects pan out....
On Paper the Yankees did very, very well because Nady & Marte were considered the top players' "available" & only giving up Tabata & 3 marginal prospects is a great deal Yankees wise.....again the Pirates have decided to rebuild AGAIN & are set to break a record ("most consecutive" losing seasons - sad for such a historied franchise)

I think if we threw in Ian Kennedy, we could've got Bay instead of Nady.

Reports say that Bay isn't available unless the Pirates are blown away, so it would've taken a lot more than Kennedy to get Bay.

Really, is there any need to say this? This goes for every single trade, ever. Obviously, a trade that looks good now can turn out to be a bust. A trade that looks bad can turn out to be great. Obviously it's impossible to say exactly what this trade will do for both teams, but it's certainly perfectly fine to discuss the merits of each side and the likely possibilities. There's no need to say "We won't know until we know how all the players pan out."
Anyway, looks like the Pirates are actually getting Jeff Karstens (blah) and Daniel McCutchen instead of Kontos and Coke. Karstens is worse than both, but i like McCutchen better than both of them.

Dam it.

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
Yankees Get:
NADY
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.330 13 57 .383 .535
MARTE
ERA W L SO WHIP
3.47 4 0 47 1.16
Pirates Get:
TABATA
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.248 3 36 .310 .320
OHLENDORF
ERA W L
4.03 1 1
MCCUTCHEN
ERA W L
3.58 4 6
KARSTENS
ERA W L
3.80 6 4
Straight Up it looks like the Yanks got the better deal. I would've held onto Tabata but if I had a choice between him and Karstens I'd have rather seen Karstens stick. Not to worried about McCutchen and Ohlendorf
This trade should pay immediate dividends for the Yankees though it might prove better in the long-term for the Pirates.

Lol, apparently Kennedy and Buchholz are equals. From the Yankees, the Rockies were asking Ian Kennedy for Brian Fuentes. From the Red Sox, the Rockies were asking Clay Buchholz. :p

Re: Pirates Trade Nady, Marte
It sucks that Daniel McCutchen is actually involved in the trade, considering he is ready and should be a solid back of the rotation (4 or 5) pitcher. But we have a TON of pitching depth in the minors, so McCutchen was definitely expendable.
