Mariners are doing terrible, but will they trade their biggest star, one of the most popular athletes ever?
I doubt it, the fans would never go to a Mariners game again, he is the only great player there (Still waiting on Felix)
Personally, I would trade him for specs, but the M's won't do it
It would be better to trade him in the long run, but the team's popularity would be pitiful and they'd have some of the lowest attendance in baseball. SO they have to make that decision: DO we disgrace ourselves now and prepare better for the future, or keep the crowd we have and keep building with Ichiro?
Would the M's trade him.....hmmmmm.....I have Randy Johnson, A-Rod and Griffey in my mind......yeah I see Ichiro going Bye Bye!
It would go down as the worse trade in Mariners History. I have no trust in the Mariners to trade Ichiro and get the same worth back. He puts fans in the stands, and he is the only star the Mariners have. As with 3 HOFers playing at once...They traded the Big Unit, but they had Jamie Moyer, They were forced to trade Griffey, but they got Mike Cameron.... they didn't sign A-rod, then they signed Ichiro.
What will they do now? They don't have Pat Gillick anymore...they have the leftovers of Bill Bavasi's group. What they need to do is trade the whole front office to oakland.
trade him to my braves for chuck james, jeff francouer and blaine boyer
I think he might be the missing piece to the marlins but they wouldn't take on the $$$ too bad too because they have a really good team
There's no way the Marlins would trade for Ichiro after the inflammatory comments made by their front office last year when Ichiro was signed to that long term extension.
Here's just a brief reminder of what the Marlins' team president said about the deal last summer:
Samson referred to the impending Ichiro contract as "the end of the world as we know it." In his radio rant, Sampson went on to say "It'll take the sport down, that contract", "Right back to the ridiculous contracts. It can't be", and called the contract "a joke" and "inexcusable". To cap off his interview, he then took a direct shot at the Mariners organization, accusing them of "mismanagement".
And the other thing is I'm not sure there would be any takers for Ichiro so soon after a longterm, big money contract extension.
As well as all the other reasons such as fan popularity, face of the franchise, best player, etc.
And the Marlins have not mismanaged themselves?
Ownership wont allow that to happen though. The guy from Nintendo loves all Japanese players. Plus Ichiro puts butts into seats and tourist into Seattle.
They should put pictures of Ichiro's butt on the seats to draw more fans! Or maybe like a mold of it with his autograph
