Oh, please. Probably none of us here will ever be offered $2 million for anything, but no one would turn that down. No one. Comparing a $2 million difference to a $.50/hour pay difference is ridiculous.

Unless you've been in those shoes, its not fair to question. And if you were in those shoes I'd wager my meager salary that you'd take the higher longer one every day of the week.
I'm a Sox fan. I know however that if the Sox wanted him all they had to do was pony up another year....they knew that too and chose not to. In the end, it was a good deal for the Sox not overpaying for him. So why b!tch???
AMEN! Posting like one of the more intelligent posters around here.

Ya know I never hold it against player who chooses more money, had no problem with Pedro going to the Mets. And if the Sox release Manny i wouldn't have anything against him if he signs with the Yankees.
But Damon specifcally said he wouldn't sign with the Yankees when asked. If he simply said "Ya'know I wanna stay here, but we will see how things turn out" That's would have been fine. And if you beleive Boras, Damon took a DISCOUNT to sign with the Yankees, claiming there was a more lucrative contract available.
And yes players do take less money to play for ceratin teams, Actually last year, while taking essentially the same per year total, Mike Lowell to a 3 year deal from the Sox over a 4 year deal from Philly. Glavine took 8 Million (+3mil buyout) over 13 mil from the Mets to return to Atlanta

Quoth the Yankee, "at this level it's all monopoly money".....Jason Giambi.
Re: Damon calls out teammates
The difference was much more than 2 mil. Maybe only 2 mil extra per season but there was an EXTRA season on the deal the Yankees offered which the sox and as far as I understood NOBODY else would offer.
The games a business, Damon made a smart business decision. Get over it already.
Re: Damon calls out teammates
I was thrilled that the Sox didn't give in to fan pressure and open the vault. He was a good player, popular, helped move merchandise and tickets while he was here.
I don't think he was ever a great player, but the Yanks paid him as if he were. He squeezed one last big deal out, and probably helped the Sox inadvertently by tying up a large chunk of Yankee cash. I'm happy with his decision.

Nevermind:
Before the 2006 season, Arroyo signed a three year $11.2 million contract with the Red Sox. Arroyo said the deal was a "hometown discount" and agreed to the terms against the advice of his agent.
