I do not consider myself a basketball fan at all (I'm solely a baseball fan), but I watched a minute of the NBA Draft today (in NYC) and the Knicks fans booed their 1st round pick.
Why is this?
I don't remember the last Knicks draft pick that the Knicks fans didn't boo
They've come to accept that their team's scouts have problems scouting well and thus assume whoever they select isn't gonna be too good
Yeah. They're New York fans they will boo who ever get picked thats what they do.
but they did take Danilo Gallinari, a 19 year old Euro player - in the past NBA teams have been a bad at scouting Euro players as they been scouting High school players, (think Darko Millic), giving Eruo players a bad name.
But Gallinari wasn't really a bad pick, he's a slightly smaller and more agressive version of Nowitski, He wasn't drafted as a "workout" guy, he was one of the best Euro players last year.
If the Knicks don't draft the biggest name in the draft then the fans boo. Even if it is a good pick they will boo. Try watching the NFL draft and watch how they react to both the Giants and Jets when they make their pick.
I'm not a big fan of draft the Euro guys, as I believe that you can normally sign them on your own if you really want to, but he doesn't look like a bad pick.
I just can't believe that the draft is only two rounds, has it always been that way or am I just stupid?
It's a NY tradition
With no farm system there is no need to draft that many players.
Even with that, the second round pick may not make the team
They do have a developmental league.Quote:
With no farm system
Even WITH that, there aren't many jobs in pro hoops. 12 guys active, 3 guys in reserve. That's it.
