Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
For the past eleven years the Pittsburgh Pirates have been a less then stellar team. Longing to return to their glory days of the past. But never the less the league feels there is need for a change. Secret negotiations have been started with the Pirates organization on a move to Portland. The move is being kept under wraps from the public and players and is being set for the 2008 season. The Pirates will also move to the AL west and get a uniform and name change. The only problem is the league has told the Pirates Organization that in order to make the move they must have a cash balance of $100,000,000 by January 1st, 2008. So let the rebuilding begin.

Re: Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
Interesting start. Would the move to the AL West result in odd number of teams in each league, but balanced divisions? Either way I look forward to more.

Interesting.
Are you going to change the name if they move to Portland?

Re: Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
if you move to the AL west, you will have to expand both leagues or move two teams to keep an even number in each league, or else the schedule will go crazy.

Re: Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
$150,000,000. Guess we know what the Pirates will be playing for.
And I like Portland Pirates. It's alliteral. They have an ocean near portland, it works. Seahawks are kinda like parrots...

Det gets:
Julian Tavarez

Jeff Suppan
St. Louis gets the better of this deal as they get a former all-star closer to fill that empty spot. Detroit gets a lot of salary dumped on them for mostly a group of aging bench players.

After Rangers right fielder David Dellucci went down for 2 months with a dislocated hip they needed a replacement. Pittsburgh decided to help them out and sent RF Raul Mondesi to them for young reliever Joaquin Benoit.

Cool idea to move them out to Portland. Where did you get your team logos from that are on the page 1 box scores?

Re: Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
Pittsburgh, PA-Rumors have been swirling of a possible Kip Wells trade to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates have been looking to dump his 3.8 million dollar budget since the beginning of the year. And after todays news that Cardinals pitcher Woody Williams was going to be out for the rest of the year due to a severed knee ligament the possibility of a trade was opened up. Kip had no comment after being asked about the possibility of a trade, but he has been known for wanting out of Pittsburgh. Kip has gotten into many arguments with Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon about taking him out of games early.

League News:
Trades
Boston gets:
Bill Hall
Russell Branyan
Milwaukee gets:
Bobby Jones
Jonathan Papelbon
This deal is really a dead tie, but I have this strange feeling that Boston might regret losing that Papelbon kid I think he might of made it in the bigs. But Boston also gets a future replacement for Nomar and hall can also play some 3B, so it fills more of Bostons needs.

Boston gets:
Jody Gerut
Andrew Brown
Jeriome Robertson
Cleveland gets:
Russell Branyan
Adam Hyzdu
Well the Sox didn't hold on to Branyan too long. But I have to say the Indians get the better of the deal with Branyan as he is a pretty good power hitter and all they had to trade was a couple of less than stellar prospects.
Misc.
Corey Koskie hit for the cycle. Never saw that comin'
Injury
Barry Bonds is out for 2 weeks and he doesn't have a single HR yet, let's see if he can get to 756.

Trades
Pittsburgh gets:
Aaron Rakers
Baltimore gets:
Brian Boehringer
One of Baltimore's relievers went down so I was offered a trade for one of my veteran relievers in Boehringer. With this trade I get to dump a little over a mil. and get an O.k. prospect in Rakers. This move also opens up a spot for Benoit in our bullpen.

This deal is really a dead tie, but I have this strange feeling that Boston might regret losing that Papelbon kid I think he might of made it in the bigs. But Boston also gets a future replacement for Nomar and hall can also play some 3B, so it fills more of Bostons needs.
Why does Theo always make dumb moves like this in this game? :D
I honestly don't know if I should cheer for you or boo you. I kinda want the Pirates to stay in Pittsburgh...

Re: Moving Out:The Pittsburgh/Portland Pirates (2004)
Cincinnati, OH-In a sad day for baseball, one of the leagues best home run hitters and most respected player went down today with a torn rotator cuff when trying to gun down a runner at home in Wednesdays game. "Griffey is one of the classiest people never mind player, I've ever meet." Said the commissioner. "It's heartbreaking to see him go down again, and for this long! It really is a shame." Said a Reds fan on his way to todays ballgame.
