Mariners fans, rejoice!
Bill Bavasi has been fired. VP/Associate GM Lee Pelekoudas will serve as interim GM.

Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
LOL
I saw this and just knew you would make a thread about it rather quickly :)

Neither does winning :)

Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
This is the best thing that's happened to the Mariners this whole season. Hope Sexson joins him soon.

Bavasi fired!!!
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3446853
THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY IN MY LIFE :D :D :D :D :D :D
I mean I hope he has a future in baseball, the thing is that he just wasn't getting the job done and if I don't get the job done, I would get fired from my job. Bavasi it isn't personal, but shoot, you made sooo many bad moves, this should have happened a long time ago...
-
Re: Bavasi fired!!!
He could be a hot dog vendor... But he would probably trade the hot dogs for a moldy bagel that is too old to eat
-
Re: Bavasi fired!!!
This is some good news for Seattle fans, haha.

Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
O maybe the M's will hire Sabean once he gets fired!!!!

OMFG, That better not happen...lol, I will disown the mariners if they hire Sabean...lol
Maybe they can trade for Billy Beane ;)
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Thank God he's fired. Any chance that Pat Gillick will come back? We had some good years with him.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Let's hope Mclaren is only sticking around for the rest of the season as well. In fact, the Mariners should just sweep all their trash out the door now. Bavasi, Mclaren, Sexson, Washburn, Vidro, Willie, Cairo. My god, they have a lot of junk sitting around on that roster. Go M's!

Are you joking? Gillick destroyed our farm system! I say Chris Antonetti for GM and Paul DePodesta for assistant GM.

ESPN: Seattle traded Jose Vidro and Richie Sexson for GM Billy Beane, who will serve as GM. An insider on the team was quoted saying " we feel this move will increase our offensive production heavily, and brings us I guy who gets guys on base. Sexson and Vidro did not get guys on base."
hmm....
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Well, first day without Bavasi, and McLaren moves Ichiro to right field to play Bloomquist in center...even though Ichiro is a gold-glove caliber center fielder and hsi glove is much more valuable up the middle....and has Johjima taking grounders at first base.
Fantastic!
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Man...without Bavasi, no one will ever take Julio Lugo and his $9mil in a trade....ahhh shucks.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
We'll take him, if you take Igawa, Pavano, and Posada in 2/3 years. We'll also throw in Chase Wright, but you have to throw in Timlin and Wakefield.

Why get rid of Willie? He's cheap, plays 7 positions, and is a fan favorite. We might be stuck with Vidro for one more year if he gets to a certain amount of PA's. Knowing McLaren, he probably will. I dont see why Vidro is in the middle of the lineup? He should be at the bottom three. How many years does Washburn have till his contract is up?

Its not like the farm can get any worse. Bavasi traded them all to Baltimore. Watch in five years the Orioles in first place with all ex-Mariners.

There is still that Saeban guy in San Fransisco. You never know what would happen.

Washburn has one more year left for 2009 but he is truly terrible right now and has been for the duration of his contract. Just buy him out and replace him with someone much cheaper.
And the reason Willie has to go is to eliminate the Mariners' manger's fetish with him. He has received far too many ABs in the past, although I will say that this year the Mariners have done a good job of limiting his plate appearances, probably because of his terrible production (.189/.306/.189). And the whole fan favorite bit is precisely why Bavasi and the current management failed the past several years. I think fans want a winning ballclub more than seeing Willie the local hero get his ABs.
And yes, let's all pray that Vidro doesn't get enough ABs for his option to vest. Please, please, please.

If Willie just ran and played some defense, I would be happy. I would agree that he is getting too many at bats. Half the team sucks so its not like he is hurting the team right now though.

He's been overpaid, but he hasn't been terrible for the duration of his contract. He's been about a league-average pitcher. This year, he's terrible.

Lugo may not be too young. He probably lied about his age and is really 48, which is why he cant field
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
In related news, it appears that they've held discussions and are strongly considering releasing Richie Sexson!
I'm assuming Jose Vidro and Miguel Cairo come next? We'll see if the new interim GM is really serious about recognizing sunk costs.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Apparently Clement will handle the majority of the catching load from here on out. And since Johjima has been getting reps at first base the past few days, it looks like Kenji will be the first baseman on the days he doesn't catch.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
wow. finaly some smart moves out of seattle
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
can't believe what is going on...actually smart moves :)
I think that McLaren needs to go as well, we need to start fresh.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
i say give him a team to work with 1st.
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
I hear that Sexson has now been released....
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
-
Re: Mariners fans, rejoice!
Oh. My. Gosh. So far everything I've been hoping for, the Mariners have done.
Bavasi out the door? Check.
McLaren gone? Check.
Clement called up for significant ABs. Check.
Sexson out? Too many rumors about it to ignore.
Vidro not getting enough ABs for his option to vest? Ugh... This is still Seattle after all.
-
