Ken Griffey

This an article from a week or so ago about the lack of fanfare regarding Jr's impending 600th homerun.

The article touches on all the basic no thought excuses like PED etc, But i think he misses what may be the biggest reason.

It will be a sad reminder of what might have been. Griffey was the kid with the sweet stroke, He pounded balls out in the cavernous Kingdome, And after 12 years at just ago 30 he was sitting just shy of 450 HRs.

Seemingly a bright future for a guy in the age of long careers the math was bring calculated just 30 HR a year for 10 years and he be right next to Hank, If he kept up his pace of 37 per year he be there by 2008, if he kept up his pace of 50HRs like he had the previous 5 years he be there in 6 short years.

And all this as he returned home to Cincinnati.

But then the injuries hit, it would be 4 more year before he even made it to 500, and now another four years hes waiting for 600, not 700 not 756.

600 for Griffey and those that watched his boyish grin and that smooth stoke that cleared 56 HRs in back-to-back years, will be a "what coulda been" reminder for a guy everyone loved and everyone wanted to be the new HR king.

He is the real active Home run king, not Barry or Sosa(if you count them as active)

Plus playing in Cincinnati doesn't help either. A last place team where the fans don't show up for games and the local media isn't all that thrilled with the organization at the moment too.

I wish he would hit #600, so the Reds would go ahead and trade him to contender so he gets another chance at a championship.

I wish he gets traded to Seattle for his 600th.

I'd like to see him finish his career with Seattle. Seems like both sides want that to happen to some extent.

He was a great player....but sadly there's just as much circumstantial evidence that he roided as there is many others who are thought to have.

Now before you homers jump on my shiite, take off the rally cap and look at it fairly.

- Was he a big power hitter during the roid era: check for yes

- Was he friends with Barry Bonds: check for yes (many articles about confirmed reports he spoke with Barry about roid use during dinner while watching McGwire break Maris's record. Other suspected roid users off the top of my head that hes been associated with include Edgar Martinez, and Jay Buhner...surely we can come up with more if we tried.)

- Did he get alot of injuries: check for yes (sure some were unquestionable like breaking his wrist while crashing into the wall, but many were muscular and if others are questioned about injuries related to roid use without evidence, why shoudn't griffey be?)

- Did his numbers decline during the time roid testing started?: check for yes (even a little prior but sure, some because of injury....but again, others aren't getting such excuses)

- Did he get bigger?: check for yes?? maybe...(alot of 'roid users' weren't big and didn't take them to get big...looking at griffey though I'd say he got a bit bigger as he approached the time he went to cincy. I've got nothing to prove that, but that hasn't stopped others from getting blamed)

So............to make it short, those who want to accuse others of roiding have to be consistent and admit that Griffey is in the same boat as well as many others during this era. Problem is, Griffey was such a fan favorite and beloved by the media that he gets a pass.

Yep, agree with what dickay said. I don't personally think Griffey used steroids, but there's as much evidence against him as there is Sammy Sosa, and somebody in this thread already said Griffey's the "real active home run king" unlike Sosa/Bonds. Although the evidence against Bonds is well....incredibly overwhelming....there is just as much evidence on Sosa as their is Griffey.

Will you stop agreeing with me!! I'm trying to start an argument lol. Wait till the Church of the Holy Saint Griffey crowd gets a hold of this............it may be a doozy.

I've haven't seen a more can-do-no-wrong player since Jordan. Griffey could slap a baby who was crying while he was giving an interview on national TV and the Church of Griffey paritioners would say the baby shouldn't have looked at him that way. :D

Have you seen Derek Jeter? Jeter could go on a house-to-house rampage and kill the first born child of 100 families and he'd still be a saint.

This is true. Although I hold him in very high regard myself. The guy has slept with about 10-15% of Maxim's 100 most gorgeous woman! 10 years ago and 40-50 pounds ago I had at least three strangers tell me I looked like Derek Jeter. Oohhh how I only wish I had taken more advantage of those days. :confused:

lol- I could image Jeter doing that, but then RedSox Fakeation, would have a cow :D

As for Junior, he didn't roid up, actually there are a lot of reports that Griffey never worked out in Seattle according to the M'S trainer Rick Griffith.

I doubt that Griffey roided, but like dickay said, it is something that you have to at least think about.
