If Cleveland feels they do not have a shot at the pennant they will try to trade Sabathia at the deadline, and they would probably grant a negotiating window for a contract extension in order to increase their trade haul. That team might or might not be the Yankers, but probably only if they are willing to make the kind of trade they were not willing to make last year for Santana. I have heard that the Indians are trying to engage the Dodgers in talks for Sabathia, but I don't know how far that will go. I think LA may actually be looking to move some pitching soon themselves; either Lowe or Penny may end up on the trading block in July.

Oh yes, we do look forward to next season; we're probably either as good or better than the Red Sox are this year, and next year with the likes of Mark Teixera (possibly), C.C. Sabathia (possibly) Brett Gardner, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Mark Melancon, Brent Cox, Juan Miranda, Humberto Sanchez, amongst others... we should be excited that we're gonna win the WS in 2010.

Sabathia hasn't had any sort of decline...He's coming off a Cy Young season. This year, he had 4 bad starts, Since then, he has a 2.01 ERA on 58.1 innings with a 60:11 K:BB ratio. Sabathia's statistics have been on the RISE leading up to this year, and by the end of this year, he's going to have good numbers as well. 4 bad starts isn't a decline, or a sign of one.Quote:

I agree signing a pitcher like that can be risky, but wieght didnt kill of David wells too much.
As far as last year, Yes Sabathia didnt pitch all that great but he went 5 IP and gave up 3 runs to yankees and left with a 6 run lead, game six he pitched 6 IP and gave up 4 runs, and really only got shelled in game one V boston. But that could have had something to do that he had pitch. 250 innings almost 20% more than he had ever pitched in a season before.
