Rumor has it CC is the reason they never got close to Santana. Oh, and if Pettite really retires, say hello to Blanton or Sheets. Whats Wang with that?:D
They'd have to give up something to get Blanton...if he even becomes available in trade.
Also, the Mets, I bet, would be heavily pursuing Teixeira as well.
Point taken but:
1) The Mets already blew their wad in 2008.
2) Blanton is a free agent after this year. I doubt he will hang around Oakland. I could see at least 10 teams wanting him.
3) You are gonna have a really pissed off Steinbrunner Jr waving about 30-50 million around. An angry Stein will always sign a player. Teixeira is worth no more than 50 million for 4 years, but the Yanks will throw big money to have their way.
$12.5 million a year for Teixeira? Not with Scott Boras as his agent. He'll be closer to $20 mil than he will to $10 mil. Seeing as he'll be 28 at the end of this season, I would think he'll get at least $18 million per year judging by recent contracts.

Tex's agents have hinted that they are looking for 7-8 years and 20 mil +, reguarless the total contratc will be well over 100 million.
The Mets will be shedding Delagdo (12m or so) and Pedro (another 12m) and already have a payroll that 70 mil less than the Yankees, you dont think the Mets will increase payroll for a new stadium?
If this year winds up poorly for the Yankees the Mets will go big to try to take over New York. And will compete for any and all players you mentioned.
As far as Blanton or Sheets, I guess you could sign Sheets to your DL squad right off the bat (y'know to save time), and Blanton is a restrited FA i beilve so who know where the As will go with that.
