Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
They'd have to give up something to get Blanton...if he even becomes available in trade.
Also, the Mets, I bet, would be heavily pursuing Teixeira as well.
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
Point taken but:
1) The Mets already blew their wad in 2008.
2) Blanton is a free agent after this year. I doubt he will hang around Oakland. I could see at least 10 teams wanting him.
3) You are gonna have a really pissed off Steinbrunner Jr waving about 30-50 million around. An angry Stein will always sign a player. Teixeira is worth no more than 50 million for 4 years, but the Yanks will throw big money to have their way.
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
$12.5 million a year for Teixeira? Not with Scott Boras as his agent. He'll be closer to $20 mil than he will to $10 mil. Seeing as he'll be 28 at the end of this season, I would think he'll get at least $18 million per year judging by recent contracts.
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
My Yankees wishlist: WINS!!!!

He's not a free agent until after 2010...

Teixeira is worth way, WAY more than 50 million for 4 years in the current market...
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
Tex's agents have hinted that they are looking for 7-8 years and 20 mil +, reguarless the total contratc will be well over 100 million.
The Mets will be shedding Delagdo (12m or so) and Pedro (another 12m) and already have a payroll that 70 mil less than the Yankees, you dont think the Mets will increase payroll for a new stadium?
If this year winds up poorly for the Yankees the Mets will go big to try to take over New York. And will compete for any and all players you mentioned.
As far as Blanton or Sheets, I guess you could sign Sheets to your DL squad right off the bat (y'know to save time), and Blanton is a restrited FA i beilve so who know where the As will go with that.

Huh? Where is this stuff about Blanton becoming a free agent? He'll have 4 years of service time after this season, not 6...
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
Tex will be a Yankee next season. C.C. will be a Yankee next year. We'll probably go out and get some bullpen help, and some more depth for the bench. C.C. will probably get 6 years or so @ around 20M per. Tex will probably get 6-7 years @ around 18M per; he is twice the player that Tori Hunter is, so he will want at least as much as Hunter got... that's the way I see it.
No one will outspend the Yankees. Period! Book it.
Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
The Mariners should be desperately going after Teix this offseason too. So it won't be easy for the Yankees

Re: 2009 Yankees wishlist
My wishlist:
March 30, 2009: A highly localized 9.5 earthquake strikes the Bronx, levelling New Yankee Stadium. The only casualty is Hank Steinbrenner, who tripped over his wallet trying to get out.
April: With no place to play, the Yankees are forced to move operations to...well, I don't care where. They were talking about the Yale Bowl back in the '70s.
June: With its reduced capacity, the Yanks can't make payroll and go bankrupt.
July: After the ASG is moved for obvious reasons, MLB votes 29-1 that it's not worth waiting for the Yanks to rebuild. They take away Steinbrenner's franchise and move it to Winnipeg.
October: Winnipeg owners decide to honor 'their' heritage and keep the team's secondary name. The Winnipeg Wang join the American League.

Twice the player is a bit of exaggeration, but Tex is a lot more productive than Hunter.

Yeah, he's arb-eligible, but there's no way Oakland is going to non-tender him...The only way any other team is going to get him is via trade.
