More importantly who cares? and Is this really news?
The only reason he was at USC was 'cause of NBAs dumb one-and-done rule. Was there any reason for him not to take these gifts?

My big problem with this sort fo thing has always been with the schools as well. I understand the whole thing about college sports supposedly being "semi-pro", but let's get real. The schools are certainly profiting from their students being athletes, and with that sort of money floating around the games I dont' blame students for taking a cut.
In my opinion, the schools really shouldn't be profiteering from sports as much as they are. But, since college sports are popular, they do need to charge for something. So, in my opinion, they ought to pay their athletes some of that profit. Sports ptrograms ought to be an actual curriculum as well, in my opinion. For many of the players, that's what their going to scholl for anyway.

True... for those who do receive a scolarship, which is the vast majority of players that we're talking about here. Really though, in the face of millions of dollars in profits for the schools, that's hardly enough. You don't see rookie players signing $50,000/year contracts, after all.Quote:

I think that is a good idea about letting players be drafted and continue in college. The only problem is that (in the NHL anyway) the players don't actually sign until their done with college, and I don't see any teams in other sports being willing to sign players and allow them to continue to play in college "out of their control". Why should they pay a player for playing for someone else, after all? There's the risk factor there as well.
That's true. If I'm running a pro franchise, I don't want to give Jr. a multimillion dollar contract, only to watch him blow out his knee in the Sweet 16. Perhaps some sort of arrangement could be worked out where a player receives a stipend?Quote:

Yea, I agree. I like the stipend idea, as that's basically what I was saying in the first place anyway. The whole non-taxed entity thing just kils me as well... as anti-taxation as I am, I have a hard time saying anyone should be taxed, but their being given an unfair tax break, in my view.
