This was just a spanking. There isn't any othe way around this one. Colbert goes deep but the Padres just weren't able to score 8 runs to pull out the win in this one.

Re: 1969 Padres - From VA to CA
I went through the same thing with my Phillies dynasty. The offense was mediocre at best, and the bullpen kept blowing leads. After my first season, I decided to splurge on relievers, and trade for young hitters with tons of potential.
Now in my third season, I'm leading the NL through mid-August.
Basically what I'm trying to say, that losing is going to get to you. If you just be patient and allow your youngins to develop, you'll be a contender in no time.
Re: 1969 Padres - From VA to CA
That's what we are hoping for at least :)

Pretty much. My first year in KC I won 66 games I think. Second year I remember...64. Very discouraging. Then my young talent finally started showing up...85 wins, and 86 out of 154 in '72.
Just be patient and you'll be fine :)

Kirby pitched wonderfully as the offense got shut out again. Kirby did gain some confidence and things are starting to look up for the pitching staff. It certainly is hard to swallow all these close loses, but things do look promising.

Padres show some offense finally but the starting pitching didn't quite come through. Dave Roberts gets the spot start and shows why he hasn't cracked the starting rotation. Morales gets a start in CF and goes 3-5. He and Stahl go deep as the Padres hold off the Dodgers in a close one.

Offense didn't struggle this time against Bunning who shut us out earlier in the season. Colbert goes deep twice in the game and the Padres get the win even with the sub par performance from Randy Jones.
Re: 1969 Padres - From VA to CA
The team has been hit with some injuries as of late, do you feel that you would be playing better if you had Ferrara and Brown in the lineup?
I'm not going to take anything away from the guys that are in there right now. Sure we would love to have those guys back and they will get back in the lineup as soon as they are healthy, but I'm not going to speculate right now. Arcia, Morales and Gaston have done well filling in.
So will Ferrara and Brown go right back in to the lineup when they get off the DL?
They didn't "lose" their job, so when they are healthy they are right back in there. We aren't going to penalize someone because of an unfortunate injury.
Morales is being touted as a big time prospect for the Padres organization, does his performance change his projected track?
I wouldn't say that. It has been a good way for us to evaluate him at the major league level, but I wouldn't say it changes anything.
The Padres continue to make a good profit, what are your plans for the extra money?
Right now we are investing heavily in scouting and in our farm system. Knowledge is power in this league and the more we have the better spot we will be in for the future. Young talent is also key to the success of a team, we feel that we have a good bit of it, but we want to make sure we are helping them develop to their full potential.

We win another one. Man that feels good. I'm starting to get pretty attached to this team already and I haven't even completed two months of play. Kirby pitched well again and we had to take yet another game in to extra innings to get the win. At least this one was on the road, which shows maybe we can win away from home...:)

That makes five in a row. A part of me is thinking this could just be our lucky season, and then I look over at the pythagorean W-L which says...well it isn't good thats all you really need to know.

The losing doesn't stay around for very long. It seems like we can pretty much depend on Sisk for 8 innings of quality pitching every time he heads to the mound. It's nice to have someone like that to rely on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Padres had a 5 game winning streak earlier in the week and you just won two in a row after a loss to the Braves, how do you feel about the team at this point?
Well I feel pretty good to be honest. I could get used to this winning thing.
Some people have been calling for Davanon to be removed from the leadoff spot. How do you respond to that.
We have talked to Jerry and there is going to be a move. Jerry is going to continue to play every day for us because we just can't lose his defense up the middle. Right now his bat just isn't hot and we have someone who we think can fill the role in Jose Arcia.
Speaking of Arcia, what is going to happen when Sipin gets off the DL?
That will be evaluated when the time comes. For right now Arcia is our 2B and he will remain in that spot until we have reason to move him.
I know that we have spoken a lot about Randy Jones, but he has been a big controversy this year. Why do you continue to put Randy on the mound when it is obvious that he is not yet ready be a major league pitcher?
I don't think that it's obvious he isn't major league ready. Randy has been streaky, yes. He has had more bad games than good at this point, but no one with the Padres organization thinks this is reason for concern. I don't want to risk sounding negative, but even if we did want to send him back to the minors, who would you suggest we replace him with in the rotation?
It's ironic that you ask that because our next question was going to be about Mike Caldwell and if you had any plans to call him up?
Mike is playing very well in San Antonio, but we have no plans to bring him up at this point.
Lastly, can we expect any trade action from the Padres in the near future?
I can't really answer that at this time. The trade market has been pretty dead lately. The few options that we have looked in to just haven't worked out. We are unwilling to part with our big time prospects and that has been a sticking point for us. This, of course, has made landing any quality veterans a bit difficult.

Re: 1969 Padres - From VA to CA
First Trade Proposal Of the Year
REJECTED
The explanation for this is quite simple. They are asking for 1/3 of my starting offense plus one of the few reliable arms that I have on my roster. Normally I dont just dismiss trade offers so of course I looked in to this one.
However, I dont' really see any upside to this trade other than the option to unload some salary if I wanted to. Seeings how the Padres are not exactly having money problems (most profit YTD), I didn't think that was something that was a smart move at this point.
Hansen is an OK SS, but nothing better than what I have really. He is hitting .300 this year, but I don't need to get older.
Janeski doesn't exactly get me excited. Orta looks like a nice prospect, but I don't see the point in selling off Kelly just to get another prospect similar. Blanco has some upside but 1B are far from hard to come by so I don't think there is need to be in a hurry to pick him up either. Maloney...meh, nothing at all to really say about that guy.
I want to compete and put the best team on the field that I can. I have to also look out for the future, but to me, I don't think this trade has enough upside to warrant destroying my chances at having a decent season this year.

Dodgers get the best of us as Jones doesn't pitch completely horrible. 8 innings and only give up 4 runs, you should at least have a decent shot at winning the game.

A much needed win to get my guys out of the funk that they have been in this week. Kirby pitches a good game and just keeps getting better with every start it seems. He may be the best rookie on the squad at this point.
