Clemens admits 'mistakes,' denies affair with teen
Roger Clemens apologized Monday for unspecified mistakes in his personal life but denied having an affair with a 15-year-old.
The Daily News reported last week Clemens had a decade-long relationship with country star Mindy McCready that began when she was 15 and an aspiring singer. The newspaper also linked the star pitcher to former Manhattan bartender Angela Moyer and Paulette Dean Daly, a former wife of champion golfer John Daly.
"Even though these articles contain many false accusations and mistakes, I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry," Clemens said in a statement issued by spokesman Patrick Dorton. "I have apologized to my family and apologize to my fans. Like everyone, I have flaws. I have sometimes made choices which have not been right."
The apology was first reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Brian McNamee, Clemens' former trainer, accused the pitcher in December's Mitchell Report of using performance-enhancing drugs in 1998, 2000 and 2001, before players and owners agreed to ban them from baseball.
Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner and 354-game winner, has repeatedly denied using steroids and human growth hormone and filed a defamation suit against Brian McNamee.
"I believe my personal life has nothing to do with the accusations of steroid and HGH use," Clemens said. "I have already made clear that I did not use them. Now, I have been accused of having an improper relationship with a 15-year-old girl. Nothing could be further from the truth. This relationship has been twisted and distorted far beyond reality. It is just one of many, many accusations that are utterly false.
"I realize that many people want me to simply confess and apologize for the conduct that I have been accused of, but I cannot confess to, nor apologize for, things I did not do. I have apologized to my family for my mistakes, and having offered this apology to the public, I would ask that you let me and my family deal with these matters in private."
Clemens' lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said Friday he will talk with his client about whether to proceed with the defamation suit following a wave of unpleasant publicity.
"He's getting pummeled," attorney Rusty Hardin said then. "I've never seen somebody get beat up like this. In some ways, I think we're on uncharted ground."
The decision on whether to drop the suit rests with Clemens.
"That's always a decision the client has to make," Hardin said. "That's not the lawyer's decision."

She has already admitted to it, she said there was nothing to deny in the article, what a freaking *****.
Re: Clemens admits 'mistakes,' denies affair with teen
I haven't actually read the first article that was posted on this, but I was under the impression that it never really said that they had sex or anything like that. I could be wrong, but I think it just talked about an improper relationship, which is true, because no man Roger's age should have been having a relationship of any kind with a 15 year old girl.
Anyhow, lets not throw the book at him yet. I am a firm believer that if this whole steroids thing didn't crop up no one would have heard of this. Also from all the sources, it isn't like any of this is a real shocker to anyone who knows Roger.

Well as far as her "admission" goes, I wouldn't consider her the most reliable source either. Publicity-starved struggling singer trying to revive her failed career, she's clearly embracing the "any publicity is good publicity" principle. In fact, she's the one who "broke" the story.

Yeah, I noticed she's been making the rounds of the talk shows...looking like she's gone WAAAYYYYYY too many rounds with Jack Daniels.

Sorry, I have no problem with her, if a reporter asked and she answered truthfully more power to her, its Fraudger that is a *****.
Re: Clemens admits 'mistakes,' denies affair with teen
Fact: Clemens is a HOF pitcher
Fact: Roger plays the "fillies"
Fact: FBI are investigating whether he perjured himself in Congress testimony
Possible truth : Several witnesses have said he used PEDs (including his best friend & his personnal trainer)
I personally think he will be in Cooperstown thanks to his baseball skills & the lack of voters' memory, does he deserve it? Yes is his career perfect? No,& it should be mentioned in his CV the allegations with the use of "".

wow, the media has made so much more of this quote than it was. She has ADMITTED nothing!! She gave an interview (i forget with who) a day after that quote and was questioned on it. The quote in the paper was that she cannot refute anything. She said in her interview as well that she can't refute anything in the article. She was asked if she then confirmed it. She said I can't confirm anything in the article either. She then said all she could say was she found it funny. It was clear she's denying it but won't state anything publicly as her lawyers are involved.
Now I think she's BS. If she didn't have a sexual affair it was an inappropriate one at the least. But I think it's more BS how the media took her quote "I can't refute anything" to mean she acknowledge the report. That's horrific journalism and obviously their intent worked, as at least one person in this forum snagged it and drew conclusions.
