HGM: Just curious, what in the helll is ERA+?
Re: What now for the NYY?
ERA+ (Link)
ERA measured against the league average, and adjusted for ballpark factors. An ERA+ over 100 is better than average, less than 100 is below average.

gRYFN1 said it perfectly. If you have a 4.50 ERA and the park-adjusted league ERA is 4.50, you have a 100 ERA+. A lower ERA, you're ERA+ will be higher. A higher ERA, you're ERA+ will be lower.
It's better to use when comparing pitchers because a 2.00 ERA in 1968 in Dodger Stadium isn't equivalent to a 2.00 ERA in 2000 at Coors Field.
Re: What now for the NYY?
More importantly it shows how you did vs the league as a whole, making it easier to compare differnt times.

That's what I said! :p That's a much more succinct way to put it though.

I've got bad news, Rick. Since he shares the same record as Wang, but has a better ERA, fewer walks, and more strikeouts, Ervin Santana is, in fact, the best pitcher around. :D

And Brandon Webb handily beats them both!
