seriously man - these wang lovers are tough to deal with. I wanna talk about great pitchers - they wanna talk about wang. Glorifying the wang, putting that wang up there on a pedastal. I tell you man, these guys are crazy about the wang.
Well the thread was about what now for NYY so talking about Wang it fits. This is a NYY thread!
Yes, wang really fits in good here. It fits in almost perfectly.
Game: Arrange three startings pitcher's last names (or nicknames) into a funny animal part:
Petitte Moose Wang
LOL!:D
If Petitte Moose Wang went 20-0 HGM would still argue a 1-15 pitcher was better because of run support for PMW! :p
Haha, PMW. Personally, I would prefer Randy Johnson, the Yankee's closer Rivera, and Jon Lester for my 1-2-3 combo:
Johnson Mo' Lester
or, potentially
'Big Unit' Mo' Lester
But enough of my immature silliness
Yeah, using the flawed "Win" stat. The Yankees scored more runs than the Diamondbacks is the more accurate assessment.
Then stop using wins as a judge of pitcher ability.Quote:
Yes!
That's all fine and good, you should root for your players and all.. but when it comes to discussing actual evaluation, it's better to try to be a little more objective.Quote:
See though I am a fan...so I can look at stats until I am blue in the face but in the end, I love the Yanks, I like Wang and I think he is the best thing going right now. This is what makes baseball great. Fans standing behind their teams. I love the Yanks. Always have, Always will. Yes they have stunk at times, I can admit that, however Wang is 6-0!
At least you admit you're being irrational. :pQuote:
So the discussion can go on for pages but I hear what you are saying and as an irrational, die hard Yanks fan all I can say is :p
Only if that was the case. :) (And such a discrepancy likely never would happen because it would take both a ridiculously great offense on the one team and a ridiculously horrendous offense on the other)Quote:
If Petitte Moose Wang went 20-0 HGM would still argue a 1-15 pitcher was better because of run support for PMW!
We'll just say that Wang is top 5 and call it a day, ok?
You know, this thread had me shaking my head yesterday. This absolute blind loyalty that a couple of yankee fans feel for their Wang , in the face of overwhelming opposition. I mean, here, trying to convince them that Wang is not the best pitcher in baseball is roughly the equivalent of attempting to persuade a stubborn 5 year old that Santa Claus doesn't exist.
To top it off, they are so devoted to the Yankees, inarguably the most evil organization in the history of modern civilization. Well, I would like to announce that I am moved nearly to tears by their determination and loyalty. I am now convinced that Wang, indeed, is the best pitcher in the game. Go Wang.

Too bad this guy wasn't in the majors...I think a little Wang-Chung in your rotation would really make the opposition sweat! :D
Of course I agree that the Yankees - despite having a long line of great, talented players, and being a storied franchise - have been ruled by evil men doing evil things (from a Sox perspective, of course). There's a whole other thread talking about how they treated players, how they used Kansas City to obtain extra draft talent, the Steinbrenner-babble, etc.
But evil organization - hey, what about Monsanto? Yankees got nothing on these guys!

Randy Johnson already has one of the best names in MLB. To also call him Big Unit just seems to be a bit of overkill to me.
Sure he does.
Lackey is criminally underrated. From 2005-2007, he went 46-25 with a 134 ERA+. He allowed 8.71 hits per 9 and 2.70 walks per 9, and struck out 7.86 batters per 9.
Wang, over the same period, went 46-18 with a 119 ERA+, allowing 9.19 H/9, 2.41 BB/9, and 3.8 K/9.
Chris Young, over that period, had a 117 ERA+. Scott Kazmir, 128. Josh Beckett, 115.
Lincecum has a 128 ERA+ in 30 starts.
Yeah, Wang doesn't "pwn" then. It's a lot closer than you're probably willing to admit.
