Re: Use of crowd ambience
I do when I'm not listening to music.. When I'm listening to music I'll turn it off..

It works fine in BMs 07 & 08...

...Crowd Ambiance is a new feature to Mogul 2009

How does it differ from the crowd reactions in 07 & 08?...from the comments so far, in this thread, I gather that it is more intrusive...

Crowd Ambience is a constant crowd noise in the background that you can toggle on or off. With it off, you still have crowd cheers, but they just happen once each play instead of being on as a constant background noise.

I see...thank you, Houston...that leads me to think about crowd ambience, generally...I've never been to a pro baseball game, so I don't know what I'm missing, but I remember that I loved the old soccer crowds back in U.K. (in the 40's & 50's, before they got ugly), the anthems and the rattles...great atmosphere.
Best of all though, was being in a cricket crowd (as a Londoner, I was privileged to visit the two meccas of Lords, and the Oval). There was always someone nearby who really knew their cricket, and their running commentary was added entertainment...
Re: Use of crowd ambience
This isn't running commentary. This is more "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" for nine innings, punctuated by an occasional cheer when the play-by-play sound manages to break through.
I'm finally (reluctantly) adjusting to the new sounds for the play-by-play, but I was happier with the 07/08 version.

I leave it on for pretty much the same reason.
On a related note, anyone else miss the "sliding" sound effect on a steal attempt?

I think it sounds more like "YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
But I still like it!

You're pulling our (leading) leg, aren't you? I've never heard this in BM07 or 8 (mind you, I'm pretty deaf)

Nope.
Anyone else care to back me up on this?

Ah...I see it now, StreetM...you were referring to the squealing of brakes!

I love the idea of it, too, but to be honest it doesn't have enough variety, and after 20 games or so I get tired of it. And just like scenery, it needs to be different for every ballpark, too, because the way it is now, once you've heard it 10 times, you've pretty much memorized it.

Yep, there was definitely a sliding sound. Kinda like a "Pssshhhhhht!" :)
Re: Use of crowd ambience
I'm still new to BM 2009, but so far, I love it...it's almost as good as IRL baseball
