Here is an interesting idea for a thread... Tell us who you think is the biggest or just one of the biggest jerks ever to be involved with major league baseball. Tell us why and lets see how many we can come up with...I will post at some point but its late where i live and i work early!

I disagree, Boras is just getting what the market will bear. The owners have to agree to pay his players what they are paying them, it's not as though Scott Boras is holding a gun to their heads. He may be an egotistical a-hole, but he's hardly doing anything wrong.Quote:

As for "taking heroes from teams", please. That's not Boras's fault. Contrary to popular belief, the player employs the agent, not the other way around. The player has to give his consent to do anything. Just look at the A-Rod fiasco. Those "heroes" choose to leave their teams.
Ya he has done his job extraordinarily well, but that does not keep him from being a jerk. Ty Cobb was an amazing player, and many still called him a jerk.
Why is Boras a jerk though?
That's fine, I don't necessarily disagree with that. Using player's salaries to justify that he is a "jerk" isn't a good reason, though.
He takes to much control over his players he represents, and does not allow them to make choices in some matters. Proof of this is how several players over the off-season stopped using him as their agent. So while he gets the players money, he does not have their best interests at heart. I am not denying he is successfull, but i do not like the ways he handles players, treating them like thy have no say in there contracts.Quote:

The agent gives his advice. Sure, he can spin the advice however he wants, but all the decisions are ultimately up to the player.
yes, but boras is too forcefull. Tom Glavine wanted to return to the Braves, but Boras was not willing to negotiate with them. A-rod wanted to resign with New york. Boras was against it and seeking a contract somewhere else.Quote:

Its players lack of contentment that causes them to raise demands. Players that have huge egos, or constantly have their egos stroked by the media and such are especially responsible as they ask for astronomical amounts because they feel they need to earn more than the other players that they are better than.
You can't fault the owners for making money on the millions they have invested. They run a profitable business, the players want a piece of that because they're greedy/jealous. Yes, they deserve a fair share, but there comes a point when they're just jealous over the money the owners are making off them. If they were repressed and had bad working conditions and were making chump change, then they would be justified. But jealousy over someone else making money of their investment is not justified in my opinion.
No but see, this goes towards my point, that boras is a jerk. glavine and A-rod(the only good thing he ever did, as said above) both left Boras because of how he is, as did I believe kenny rogers. So really, while it shows that the final decision is up to the player, it also shows hows Boras is a jerk, which is what this thread is about.

Ticket prices are high because there is a high demand for them. Teams are getting the price which the market will bear for tickets. Teams don't set ticket prices based on their costs, they set their prices based on demand (and then they adjust their spending based on their income). Limited supply + high demand = rising prices. It's basic economics.

Sorry, I'd rather see the money go into the players pockets than the owners.
If the money wasn't going to the player's salaries, it'd go into the owner's bank accounts. Do you really care that the players are getting paid more, when that money is the owner's anyway?

I agree with Houston...Scott Boras is an agent. Yes, he's high profile, because he is hired by high profile players, because he has a proven track record (very similiar, actually, to Drew Rosenhaus is the NFL). Is he forceful and in your face? Yes. Does he boss his clients around? No. Why? Because an agent WORKS FOR THE PLAYER. Players can say whatever they want about why they switched teams but, at the end of the day, THEY have the final say (and I think they frequently punt the blame on to the agent, who is only too happy to take it. It improves his rep as a bulldog.)
That's not the players' fault, nor the owners' fault, though. Really, it's a problem with the entire country's economic situation. But, also, it's the fault of your fellow fans, who continue to increase demand and thus, prices, and continue to pay those prices.Quote:
