Imagine this:
You are given a choice of two buttons to push. You know that nothing negative will happen if you press either button.
There is a guy in a nice suit and tie next to you. You ask him if you should push the left button. He says, "Well, you could push the left button. But I don't see why you wouldn't want to push the super cool, amazing right button."
Which button do you think you would press?
Re: The biggest Jerks in all of baseball...
Depends on which each button does, obviously.
The agent gives his advice. Sure, he can spin the advice however he wants, but all the decisions are ultimately up to the player.

yes, but boras is too forcefull. Tom Glavine wanted to return to the Braves, but Boras was not willing to negotiate with them. A-rod wanted to resign with New york. Boras was against it and seeking a contract somewhere else.

The reason contracts rise is because we, the fans, continue to pay the price for tickets, merchandise, food, etc. With revenues increasing, the owners have more money. When the owners have more money, it is only FAIR that the players demand more as well, and that's all Scott Boras is doing.
As for "taking heroes from teams", please. That's not Boras's fault. Contrary to popular belief, the player employs the agent, not the other way around. The player has to give his consent to do anything. Just look at the A-Rod fiasco. Those "heroes" choose to leave their teams.
Not all fans can afford the rising ticket prices. To me its not worth it to sit in the upper deck where it looks like you're watching ants play baseball. So when prices get so high for seats that are worth sitting in its a bad thing.
Last year the Giants played in Boston. A contingent of fans made the trek over as well. Most of them could not buy tickets in advance, and had to wait in line to get them. I don't remember how much they were, but I remember thinking that the prices were rediculous for the seats.
The average joe should be able to go and enjoy a game, if the only seats you can afford are so far from the field you can hardly see whats going on, then prices are too high, thats a bad thing.

Yet, Glavine went to the Braves, and A-Rod resigned with New York. Proving my point.

I agree. However, the prices aren't high because players have high salaries. Players have high salaries because the prices are high and the fans continue to pay the high prices, giving the owners more money.
Re: The biggest Jerks in all of baseball...
I disagree. The owners are going to make sure they are making a certain percentage profit, so as salaries rise they raise their prices. This in turns triggers player demands rising.

And the fans keep paying the prices which gives the owners the money...
If the owners didn't have the money, the salaries wouldn't be rising. The owners continue turning in record profits, so it's only fair that the player's salaries increase as well. The player's demanding more money is NOT the root cause of the rising salaries. The fact that baseball is being flooded with record profits is. If salaries were lower, the only difference would be that the money is in the pockets of the owners instead.

A-Rod went against Boras' decision (this is the first positive thing I have ever said about A-Rod) to leave the Yankees. Boras foolishly convinced Alex to opt out of his contract in the middle of the World Series, which had nothing to do with either of them. After that, Alex wisely disregarded his crazy agent's opinion, and un-opted-out.
Agents like Boras pressure their players into going to clubs that will pay more, so the agents get more money in return.
Re: The biggest Jerks in all of baseball...
But you're just proving my point. The final decision is ALWAYS up to the player.

I am not saying that the players shouldn't get a fair cut. I am just saying barring a boycott, the owners will get their fair share or more.
At some point the circle needs to be broken so that the average joe isn't the one getting screwed.

Re: The biggest Jerks in all of baseball...
I disagree, if the players didn't ask for more money, ticket prices wouldn't rise, owners wouldn't have the money.
Its players lack of contentment that causes them to raise demands. Players that have huge egos, or constantly have their egos stroked by the media and such are especially responsible as they ask for astronomical amounts because they feel they need to earn more than the other players that they are better than.
You can't fault the owners for making money on the millions they have invested. They run a profitable business, the players want a piece of that because they're greedy/jealous. Yes, they deserve a fair share, but there comes a point when they're just jealous over the money the owners are making off them. If they were repressed and had bad working conditions and were making chump change, then they would be justified. But jealousy over someone else making money of their investment is not justified in my opinion.
Re: The biggest Jerks in all of baseball...
No but see, this goes towards my point, that boras is a jerk. glavine and A-rod(the only good thing he ever did, as said above) both left Boras because of how he is, as did I believe kenny rogers. So really, while it shows that the final decision is up to the player, it also shows hows Boras is a jerk, which is what this thread is about.

What in the world gives you that idea?
Ticket prices are high because there is a high demand for them. Teams are getting the price which the market will bear for tickets. Teams don't set ticket prices based on their costs, they set their prices based on demand (and then they adjust their spending based on their income). Limited supply + high demand = rising prices. It's basic economics.

Ohms handled this one well.

You can't fault the players for wanting the owners to pay them more for investing their whole lives in the business.

Because the players provide entertainment.

You've got to be kidding me. Owners are raking in astronomical profits BECAUSE of the entertainment the players provide. Without the players, the owners have nothing. And yet, the players are greedy because they want to get paid for what they do, and get a portion of the record profits the owners are making?

So, you'd rather have the owners pocket even more, than give the players a good portion of it?
Sorry, I'd rather see the money go into the players pockets than the owners.
If the money wasn't going to the player's salaries, it'd go into the owner's bank accounts. Do you really care that the players are getting paid more, when that money is the owner's anyway?
