Considering how many baseball players have their little superstitions, I can see wanting it removed. To make it sound like a capital crime and blow it all out of the proportion like the Yankees have is silly. If the guy really wants to mess with them, he should start a rumor there's another one he buried at the site, but not say where it is. But no really, look firther into the number and you'll see he no better than he was.

Or, it's very likely that it's just simple statistical variation. If he had this "slump" in July, it'd be barely be mentioned, if at all.
It looks like the Yankees might have found a cure, and something that will give them better luck in their new stadium:
