Grrr. I hate East (or at least more Eastern) coast bias!
As usual, the ESPN MLB Power Rankings are horrible. The Tigers, Cubs, Braves, Phillies, DiamondBacks and Blue Jays were all ranked ahead of Seattle, even though they had worse records. I know it's only a few games in, but again I'm wondering why I read ESPN in the first place.

Well... there is more talent out east. It's where the big money is, after all. I know your a fan but you have to admit that Seattle has some pretty large holes.
ps.: The D-Backs are hardly an east coast team... :)
People in Detroit and Atlanta often object to being lumped in as "Easterners" as well. That's sort of a different subject, though.

Well I'm just tired of my teams being treated like dirt because they're from the west coast. Did you know that even though the Mariners had what, the 9th best record in the Majors last year? Even though they had the ninth best record in all of baseball, they don't get one game on ESPN this year! Not that I can care so much about watching on there since the announcers aren't great, but it's frustrating, really.

the espn think is strictly $$$ they put on the $$$ teams and currently its the yanks, and sox that people watch the most. now if this was the 80's they would not be on as much but they are in higher demand.. Unfortunatly. and I hate to break it... the braves are a better team than seattle...
id say
Cleveland
Tigers
Sox
Atlanta
AZ
then its tough to pick...
Re: Grrr. I hate East (or at least more Eastern) coast bias!
Well, all of those teams, are better than Seattle.

Never mind, Coach...just imagine how good you'll feel when the Mariners prove the pundits wrong!
Re: Grrr. I hate East (or at least more Eastern) coast bias!
Man, this has nothing to do with bias. Just because somebody rates a team lower than another doesn't mean they have a bias to a specific coast.
It means they think that those teams are better than the Mariners. And they are.
Using 3-game standings in power rankings, for one, is a completely and utterly stupid move.
Secondly, the Mariners may have had a very good record last year, but they were outscored by their opponents. Their offense is pretty poor. Their pitching has improved, but the offense has declined a bit. Using last year's record as a predictor for this season isn't good. It's better to look at how the team played beneath their won-loss record. Yes, the Diamondbacks had the same problem last year, but here is why they're a better bet to stay at that level:
1) Like the Mariners, they improved on the pitching staff.
2) They're young. It's fair to expect young players who preformed poorly last season to improve.

Isn't Seattle moving that team too?

Coach, stay in your cave, the Mariners record had nothing to do with how good they are. Shoot, they gave up 19 more runs than they scored last season.... The Mariners have some serious holes. As long as Sexton is in the lineup with Vidro, and Ibanez bats 3rd....the Mariners are in some serious trouble.
