Impossible, in fact. Just because a projection system doesn't perfectly predict the future does not mean that it doesn't accurately predict the future. PECOTA, along with the other major projection systems, all do a fine job of accurately predicting the future, overall.

was the projection accounting for potential season ending injury ?
or was it projecting him to make 30 - 33 starts and get knocked out in the 5th inning on avg ?
It projected him to make 25 starts, which is exactly how many he made. It doesn't "predict" injuries, so to speak, but factors health into the equation.

thats kind of amazing then.
thank you.
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
Sample size. Check ALL of PECOTA's projection.
I'm sure you'll see some that are eerily accurate and some that are pretty far off.

Yep. As I stated. But it's still pretty awesome when it (or any projection system) gets all of a player's stats basically identical.

Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
well when u throw 100 pitches a game and rarely make it thru the 6th...
too bad too... if he could just get his command in order he could really be a very good pitcher... never be a #1 but an ok #2 or VERY good #3
