John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
C'mon Mets, Maine should be AT LEAST 3rd in the rotation...
How the helll is Oliver Perez better than John Maine???
John Maine pitches circles around Oliver Perez...
Also-
El Duque and Mike Pelfrey are HORRIBLE pitchers. We screwed up by not signing another pitcher to fill out the rotation.
P.S.
Joe Morgan just called Oliver Perez ODALIS Perez and remarked on how surprising it was that Odalis Perez was starting above John Maine (LOL)
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
I trhink that if Oliver stays on track and gets completely back in form, this choice will pay-off. Either way, the top 4 of their rotation is still intimidating. I agree however that after that, they have little.
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
The rotation order is completely irrelevent once the season starts.
The reason is probably because they want to split up their lefties and righties, going L-R-L-R.
Besides that, last season, Perez did pitch better in terms of ERA, and overall, they were pretty much identical in terms of overall value, except that Maine pitched a few more innings.

The funny thing is that Odalis is the best starter on the Nats.
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
Maine is an overrated no-talent 4.50, .265 type arm.

that was what i was thinking, the difference between 3rd and 4th is basically nothing, if things fall a certain way, maybe 1 less start over the full year.... after the 1st 10 games, it isn't in an order for say.... usually matched up with an order to make sure pitchers do get there days off...

The eye test. He won't be overlooked this year and I guarentee a 4.50 ERA at best.
Here's my prediction
10-12, 4.68 ERA, .269 OBA
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
I say 17-6 2.95 ERA .230 OBA
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
Well, if we're just going to throw out numbers here...
0-8, 8.65 ERA, .450 OBA, and he's on the DL for 90 days.
;)
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
Let's see, using actual numbers to make projections...
PECOTA: 10-7, 150 IP, 17 HR, 62 BB, 129 K, 4.13 ERA
ZIPS: 13-10, 178 IP, 23 HR, 66 BB, 148 K, 4.15 ERA
Bill James: 12-11, 200 IP, 26 HR, 81 BB, 169 K, 4.05 ERA
Marcel: 12-9, 163 IP, 21 HR, 63 BB, 141 K, 3.98 ERA
I'll take any of those or SirKodiak's.
Re: John Maine 4TH IN THE ROTATION????
My prediction is that the NY Post will soon report this item:
MAINE REQUESTS TRADE.
"I don't like being the fourth starter on the Mets," Maine said. "I think I could be the third starter on the Marlins."
